I am eagerly looking forward to my first visit to the United Kingdom. @COP26 meeting of nations comes at an extraordinary time in world history. Many countries are still battling the pandemic whilst having to undertake immense changes to our economies to meet climate goals.(1) The discussions @COP26 are going to be an important step in agreeing a collective way forward.(2)

Two years ago today, I was inaugurated as your President. I vowed to serve Zimbabwe and its people so that we could move towards a more prosperous future.

Here's what we have achieved in this time.(1) The $4.2 billion USD Great Dyke Platinum Mine is already under construction.

- Reintroduced the Zimbabwe Dollar, after 10 years of dollarization and relying on foreign currency.

- The $4 billion USD Karo Resources Mhondoro-Ngezi platinum project is ahead of schedule.(2)

So far Zimbabwe has recorded 5 cases of Coronavirus, with 1 tragic death. Though our numbers are so far low, we have observed elsewhere how quickly the virus can spread. We are therefore taking decisive action NOW, before it is too late 1/4 On Monday Zimbabwe will go under a total lockdown for 21 days. Everyone must stay at home, except those seeking health services, buying food, medicine & vital supplies, & those manning essential services. I know this will upset all of our daily lives but there is no other way 2/4

One week ago, I announced measures to stabilise our nation’s crucial fuel supply. I was aware that these measures may not be popular, and this was not a decision we took lightly. But it was the right thing to do 1/4 What followed was regrettable and tragic. Everyone has the right to protest, but this was not a peaceful protest. Wanton violence and cynical destruction; looting police stations, stealing guns and uniforms; incitement and threats of violence. This is not the Zimbabwean way 2/4
