oh no. my trainer card says i've battled two shinies but i only remember one is there a sparkle on wild shinies?? i haven't seen one at all, even when i battled an obviously shiny mareep. a decent number of shiny color schemes aren't obvious at a glance so seems bad if not

in gen 1, you could swap items with pokémon, allowing you to arbitrarily corrupt ram. focus energy decreased the chance for a critical hit. you could softlock by simply not having enough money. gust was normal-type. with charmander, the first gym was nearly impossible if you levelled up too fast, you could miss learning moves, permanently. saving in the safari zone can confuse scripts and even corrupt the game. errant npc sprites can appear under various mundane conditions. type spread is terrible; dragon and ghost have essentially no moves

the one awkward thing about cohost is that several of its prominent early adopters are people who silently blocked or simply stopped responding to me, in conspicuous proximity to when kiwi farms came after my spouse

but who knows right? probably i just made bad tweets. haha. oscillating rapidly between "i'll just act normally and it's your own problem if you read about me in the weekly world news" vs "maybe i should pre-emptively block the ones i recognize to avoid stepping over established boundaries" vs "this just sucks lol i need a fifth website"

blurting out "oh! my olive evolved!" in an entirely normal fashion "i gotta bake my dog"

[pokemon fan voice] Have you seen the pissing animation in the new games? Fucking trash. Looks like it was made in five seconds. Worst thing anyone has ever put in a video game. Game Freak are human garbage. Of course I'm buying it. No I've never made a game, why it's fine to not like a thing but man the very personal sneering over two-second "normal thing happened" cutscenes is atrocious. can't wait to release my video game to an audience of people like this oh boy

man i would really like to know why slade eats more and more cpu until it is struggling to redraw, but only on linux. really, really like to know. i'm not even sure what tooling to throw at this since it's only a problem after like hours unfortunately i crashed slade by gdbing it too hard (?) so now i will have to poke it until it slows down again, but this looks pretty useful

everyone is still taking elon at his word that the fantasy land in his imagination is a thing he actually has the power to make happen. what is he going to do, cut your timeline down to four people? twitter is constantly desperate to give you //more// to read, for ad views here is my verified notifications tab. wow! one reply from 36 hours ago still at the top. which is funny since i know i got a verified reply like half an hour ago, but it would still be a useless trickle. this is total garbage and i have no reason to ever look at it Image

Great news everyone they fixed it updates:
- twitter is fighting with itself, cannot imagine what it looks like in there rn. like they somehow launched a whole new feature without elon finding out?

thinking about platforms and fragmentation. of myself, not of the platforms i don't seem to like using more than one Thing that serves a similar niche. i think it's just that it injects analysis paralysis about "where do i post this thought", and i don't really like crossposting of big chunks of text (as opposed to links/media) — feels, idk, impersonal

i want to lose 99% of people. i've tried being on a website that became popular because all the journalists and politicians used it and turns out: that's been the worst part on the one hand, ux is good yes ok. but also path of absolute least resistance is how the web condensed into three fucking websites. you think it's too complicated that you have to pick the equivalent of an email provider? you would've starved in the jungle of the 90s internet

fwiw i'm lexyeevee on tumblr, and i just registered as lexyeevee on cohost (siiigh), but i don't really use tumblr and i don't know if i'll really use cohost

i think my main issue with tumblr's model is reblogging; it's the only way to respond and it's /so/ heavyweight if i want to chime in on someone's post, or worse a chain of posts, then now i am putting a huge block of crap in the middle of my own blog that is impossible to filter out, and you can't even easily tell at a glance which parts are things i wrote or not

it is very weird to have today witnessed multiple philosophy professors use "morally outraged" as though it were a disparaging phrase, as though it were a thing we should aspire to never be

philosophy professors

philosophy. but then i would also expect philosophy professors to have more correct opinions regarding the needless destruction of children's property

i feel like people are very easily impressed that gpt-3 knows how to get stock prices, when american presidents were born, and other things that have been documented online five million times i think what bugs me here is that, as with so much NN generation, much of the work is happening in the heads of humans — you show the computer completing a simple task and we extrapolate that it may be capable of arbitrary tasks

the common wisdom is "forget your dream game, just get something out the door" but i feel like that's been repeated so often it's become a sound byte. the more important bit is /why/ people say that, and what they're not saying — 1: it's very easy to take games for granted but actually they are fucking miracles of human ingenuity, and if they are made by one person then they are a whole series of miracles

making a game is hard and you don't know how hard it is until you finish one

the keffals discourse is so bad. it is three seconds away from "you have a girlfriend? disgusting. girls can't consent" and i feel like i am losing my mind some of it hinges on what an AAVE term "actually means" and i've read threads with black women insisting it implies noncon and that white people claiming otherwise are talking over them

thinking about the common idea that machine generation will help artists, and how i am an artist, and how the only helpful thing i've really seen is landscape or cityscape generation for generic backgrounds generally if i want to draw something and wish i had an existing picture to work with, it's because i need a particular pose or interaction and don't know how it looks. but none of the generative stuff understands anything that specific. because it doesn't understand anything

cool thing about trying to make a living on the internet is that it hinges on getting a lot of attention, but also, having had a lot of attention and having seen others get a lot of attention, i don't know that i want it me, a genius: what if i got a bigger audience from tweeting, while simultaneously losing the desire to do the thing that people most commonly paid me for

alright i will justify myself here.

the rules are arbitrary. by which i mean two things:
① the axioms are arbitrary
② a great many of the things a layperson might think of as "rules" are neither axioms nor the results of axioms ① the obvious objection is that, well, natural numbers seem to exist in some sense. real numbers (or at least positive ones to some degree of precision) seem to exist.

that's true, and we have spent a lot of time studying them and how they behave, because we care about them

sometimes i say that some state of affairs is fucking weird and i get a bunch of people rolling their eyes to me and patiently describing the state of affairs in further detail, as though that makes it not fucking weird "No, you see, the King of England is also Canada's head of state, a sort of meaningless pseudo-meta-position that only exists for the sole purpose of telling you about it" Ohhhh okay
