In 1994 four women, all gay, from San Antonio were accused and eventually convicted, of sexual misconduct with one of the women's two young nieces and sentenced to between 16 and 37 years.

They were finally released in 2013 and completely exonerated in 2018. I don't trust any state to apply the death penalty cleanly enough to actually get to apply it, and I certainly don't trust Florida, which in the midst of trying to make "Being a drag performer" a sex crime, to apply a law like this with any intent other than killing queer people.

For years people have been warning that the GOP would abandon democracy long before it abandoned bigotry and laissez faire capitalism, and we got called alarmists, so I must admit I feel a little like Ian Malcolm to watch the GOP abandoning democracy in real time. I know they've never been super devoted to it, but the TN house members being ejected, the TX Judge banning the abortion pill, the governor of MO banning HRT via executive order, all of these things happening in 2 weeks make it feel like the attacks on democracy are speeding up.

Friendly reminder that when Evangelicals says that they're being "Punished" for their beliefs, what they actually mean is their ongoing battle to enshrine their right wing, racist, sexist, queerphobic belief system into law is having social consequences. American Christians have never once had any legal consequences for their beliefs, not even the really extreme ones. On the contrary, we bend over backwards for them (look at how often the ACLU has gone to bat for them, while still being the villains in a lot of their narratives)

I forgot to mention that I finally got to watch Hawkeye and I have to say, the presence of Renner in the MCU is a constant source of amusement to me, and never more so than when he's forced to take center stage alongside Pugh and Steinfeld. Renner is, as Hawkeye at least, a massive black void of charisma. He got the role after having pretty good 2 year period over a decade ago and thus gets to just sit in this spot in the biggest franchise in movie history. Hilarious.
