Also, a reminder, there are about 50,000 coal miners in the U.S.

Twice that number of people work in museums. Also, a million and a half people work at Walmart.

As pointed out below, coal mining is about the size of Penney’s.

Dickinson just had its first all-staff all-faculty meeting since the decision to go remote.

Some things:

1. The college will give anyone furloughed 30 days notice. Full time folks will keep their benefits. 2. Hey climate twitter people, when you demand "systemic change not individual action," what SPECIFIC systemic changes are on your list?

I feel like we tend to give people modes of political action "vote!" "protest!" "call your reps!" but not a whole bunch of specific asks. In particular I'm interested in political asks that don't make the national news. "Take the COP process seriously" is an important permanent ask, but what about stuff like "stop local utilities from opposing renewables?"

In 2007, I did kind of a weird thing.

I made a little anti-Iraq War sign, glued it to a dowel, and marched across Philadelphia with it, 1.5 hrs a day, 5 days a week, for 9 months. I remember that before I started I was horribly angry all the time--the Bush Administration lied like this administration lies, the surge had just started, hundreds of thousands of people had died already.
