Something people in the Build More Housing camp seem to forget is that nearly all American cities have huge swaths of cheap housing that have been written off as "the bad parts of town" which are often sparsely populated and nearly entirely subsidized by social welfare spending I'll use STL as an example. Everything above that purple line (called the Delmar Divide) is considered North STL, aka The Bad Part of Town. If you're looking to buy a home, you'll off the bat write off that entire section of the city
