Do you live on a farm?

Do you like looking at farms?

Do you get mad when development happens near you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may not like this.

By 2027, Tennessee is on track to lose 2 million acres of farmland.

newschannel5.com/news/where-wil… Tennessee has lost 1.5 million acres of farmland to development, according to new data from the University of Tennessee.

That loss is from 1997 until 2023.

That figure equates to the loss of six counties' worth of pasture and forest land completely gone.

In 2019, Sen. Jack Johnson said using tax dollars to pay for private schools would never come to Williamson County. Now, four years later, he says he supports Gov. Bill Lee's proposal to use tax dollars to help families pay for private schools.

newschannel5.com/news/will-vouc… I quoted him as saying vouchers would never enter the county. I asked him about that.

Well, if I said something that declarative, I was in error," Johnson, R-Franklin, said. "I don’t expect there to be a lot of impact on Williamson County."

Hi all. Monday is coming — aka the day the state decides to talk about rejecting federal funds. So let's talk about it.

I looked at the data for 51 school districts in the @NC5 viewing area and talked to districts themselves.

newschannel5.com/news/they-cant… Tennessee just set up a bipartisan task force to decide whether the state should continue to accept $1.8 billion in federal funds, dollars Tennesseans send to the federal government every year when they pay taxes.

And not all lawmakers or districts think that is wise.

Xverse, you've often asked: how did Franklin get this way?

Gabrielle Hanson is the culmination of years of people before her. I would know. I've watched and reported on it.

A thread. 🧵 Candidates with extreme opinions started back in 2014 on the local level with school board. No, Moms for Liberty was not the first group to go after seats.

They were known colloquially as "the six." Their main goal among many was to oust the-then superintendent.

Hello, Xverse.

Let's talk about Gabrielle Hanson, a woman running for Franklin mayor against incumbent Ken Moore and is not being honest about those who support her.

newschannel5.com/news/newschann… My colleague @NC5PhilWilliams tracked down the women in a photo she posted of her supporters. Turns out, the photo was a meet and greet of just folks who didn't know each for a casual women's brunch in Chicago years ago.

Turns out, the women @NC5 spoke to do not support her.

Golden: As of yesterday afternoon, we were told we don't have the authority to shift to remote, but later in the evening from Comm. Scwinn we received that comment. We are asking from you to continue that ask. Golden: Right now we have no instructions from the state that we have that power. We have verbal communication from news sources, and that's what we are checking on. Superintendents are asking the same question you are asking.

I will start a new thread here with what the board is talking about on the agenda. Golden said that after their vote, the governor had an opt out to requiring it at the elementary level is overlaid with the opt-out. As of Friday, said they created some more mitigation strategies.

Business decorum is expected tonight at the Williamson County School Board meeting. Disruptive individuals will be asked to leave. No signs during the meeting. #WCSB Kristen Benton, Daniel Martin and Steve Tabor (??) are being asked to the podium.

Ahead of tonight's meeting, a group of doctors and healthcare workers have sent videos to the Williamson County School Board rather than show up in person. They fear what will happen last time could happen to them again - that being anti-maskers chasing them into the parking lot. Video from Allison Macintyre indicates she is a parent of three kids in Williamson County and lives in the Fairview community.

"Unfortunately at the beginning of this year, we had to make the hard decision to pull two of our students as CDC guidelines were not being followed."

The news desk confirmed that yes, MNPD is investigating the muzzle incident in relation to Dr. Shelley Fiscus. The fraud unit is looking at as a harassment case. Fiscus told @NC5 earlier that she felt the state's report was filled with inconsistencies. She said a second Amazon account in her name was set up using a burner phone with T-Mobile service, and she doesn't use that provider.

Yesterday, I talked to the Humphreys County 911 director on the phone. He was a very nice gentleman, who truly was overwhelmed. He explained that for 45 minutes, their system was down on Saturday, but they still continued to receive hundreds of phone calls that day. Caller- We are going under! We cannot breathe!
Dispatcher - Ok!
Caller -On top by the couch!
Dispatcher -Ok I will let them know again
Caller -Alright, hurry!
Dispatcher -Yes sir!
Caller -Please!
Dispatcher -Yes sir I'm trying my best

We've barely gotten into the Williamson County Commission meeting before the Moms for Liberty has appeared to talk during public. The first woman is discussing Ruby Bridges. The next woman is discussing those impacted the Midwest in a good way or a bad way, also talking about a book about a shark attack. She doesn't find either OK for children.

Good morning, Williamson County.

As of tonight, your property tax rate could go up 13 cents.

Here's what you need to know: newschannel5.com/news/proposed-… This increase in money does in part go to schools, but the larger portion goes to the general fund. That money will assist with upgrades to other county facilities that have had to wait in recent years because of school growth.

As the Sunday reporter for The @Tennessean, I will be on a call with the Tennessee Department of Health, listening to their announcements about hospitalizations in the state. I will live tweet what's going on as best I can. You can follow along on this thread. All information today will be on the record, which is great.
