I've just read David Renton's rant about the FWS case in the Supreme Court. It's depressing. Nearly 3,000 words of factual error, legal misunderstanding, vitriol, & hyperbolic hot takes. The last of these he is, of course, entirely welcome to. The first three - nope.
Factual errors
1. Biased procedure “not for 3 centuries” – the SC and previously House of Lords have rarely allowed individuals to intervene. No trans groups applied as interveners, that I know of. Some interveners were trans-supportive, such as Amnesty. 1/X

revsoc21.uk/2025/04/28/the… 2. Interveners: submissions not evidence. Renton really should know the difference
3. “for all purposes…” even in the GRA there are exclusions, incl. sports & peerages. The SC was interpreting the EqA, not solely the GRA.
4. “Every poll” – none cited. This is “trust me, bro” territory & the polls don’t show this; also varies by issue – sports, prisons, public loos. 2/X

Puberty blockers JR - a thread.

The previous government brought in an emergency 3 month restriction on the prescription of puberty blocks to under 18s in the UK. This was challenged by judicial review. Mrs Justice Lang has just dismissed it. 1/10

judiciary.uk/wp-content/upl… The Claimants (one 15 yr old, one trans organisation) did not state that the ban was incapable of being made but that the proceedure was not followed lawfully. Procedural challenges are important in public law, but the Cls did not assert blockers are "safe". 2/10

At first I was afraid, I was petrified,
There was no loo roll down at Aldi and I nearly cried.
Oh I spent so many nights just thinking how you did me wrong,
I used to wipe,
And now I’m forced to just drip dry !
No anti-bac !
No bloody soap, and if you think you’re buying pasta well you’ve got no bloody hope !
I would have bought that box of eggs, I would have rationed out my bread,
If I’d have known for just one second everyone would lose their head !
Go on now go, walk out the door !

What are potential conflicts between trans & single-sex rights?

There are trans rights which don't cause conflict. Time off work for relevant medical appts, treatment, etc. The protections against discrimination & harassment. The right to be able to rent a flat, or similar. 1/8 All of those rights & protections under the EqA 2010 are not in conflict with the rights of other protected characteristics.
However, there are some which do lead to a conflict of rights. I'm not suggesting answers here, raising the issues. 2/8

Virtue Signalling, Misogyny, Abuse & Revenge

Liverpool City Council tonight adopted "Standing With Our Trans Community"

councillors.liverpool.gov.uk/ieListDocument…

The motion & mayor were, I believe, unfair, abusive,in breach of Equality Act 2010 & neglectful of their proper duties. 1/15 The motion is, to put it politely, a mish-mash. It includes wild allegations, conclusions about criminal offences & random moves to “encourage” more “gender neutral” loos. It also states as a fact that “transwomen are women” without attempting to define those words. 2/15
