"Quiet Quitting" might be the most ridiculous misnomer I've ever seen. It is a euphemism for "showing up at your job and doing the bare minimum to keep it".
The implication is that the person doing it is mentally checked out, and has already gone partway down the path to leaving
In normal people's language, this is called "having a job you don't give a fuck about".
QUITTING a job is when you stop working. Declining to put extra hours in to reach for the dangled carrots of bonuses, raises, and promotions (which may never come no matter how hard you work)

Tip for younger folks: Ignore this bullshit. Unless you're empowered to hire people, staffing levels are NOT your responsibility and it is NOT your job to worry about them. Take PTO when you need or want to.
For that matter, tip for younger managers: If you manage a team but have to go through HR and/or your bosses to hire workers, the above is true for you as well. The only added responsibility in this instance is to communicate when you need more people.
