🧵 On that Saturday Paper article: not a single instance of antisemitism is cited. The staff interviewed are not neutral players, and you find out at the end that one of them isn't even Jewish. There are allusions to the idea that Jewish staff feel unsafe, but no actual evidence.
2/ The article of course opens with a spectacular and emotive account from Professor Peter Morgan, who was left "badly shaken" after a student protest — and the author places this account in such a way as to suggest the Morgan (who is not Jewish) was targeted for being Jewish.

So I’m aware of an anonymous statement denouncing the Palestine Action Group. I don’t organise with PAG anymore and I agree that we cannot do the work of the police for them. Here are my thoughts:
Protest laws in NSW are cooked. One can argue that we should just protest without providing formal notice to police, but there are some important considerations to note.

These are letters Payman has received:
“Piss off to where you've come from. All you Muslims here stain us. It would give me the greatest pleasure to be able to rip that stupid head scarf off..... How would you like a bullet fired up your vagina”
“Be aware. We are after you/family and maidens. You stupid Muslim bitch.”

(1) Gaza evacuation costs: in order to exit Gaza via the Rafah crossing, a $5,000 USD "coordination fee" PER PERSON (approx $7,543 AUD) must be paid to a single Egyptian company - Hala. This is essentially a ransom; Hala makes $2mil per day from Gaza. But there is no alternative.

Get this: @SydAnglicans is alleging via a law firm that the picket in front of Albo's office is a "security concern" given the Wakeley stabbing. They are also complaining about "religious events" of an "Islamic nature" being conducted at the site.
@SydAnglicans Is the implication that the dirty Muslims at the picket are a security threat to the church next door? Assuming a more generous reading, would the safety of the church from a random attacker not benefit from the 24/7 presence of watchful community members in the vicinity?

I'm loathe to walk into this conversation, but it's obvious that a 16-year-old can't be radicalised without inspiration/encouragement/grooming from some other source. This is the case for young white men consuming Nazi content as it is for young Muslim men consuming ISIS content.
This wasn't petty crime, it was audacious. This teenager committed a targeted attack in front of an entire congregation. Even a the most doltish youth would see no chance of getting away with something like this. And I suspect that's the point; he wanted to become a martyr.

🧵 Zionist propaganda is designed to terrify Jews. Let me give you an example: a very old and dear Jewish friend of mine, who has always had sensible politics, shared a video of activists smashing the windows of a Teledyne weapons factory in the UK…
The video had a *deliberately* dishonest caption, suggesting that it was actually footage of pro-Palestine activists attempting to break into a Jewish home. It was a lie designed to terrify Jewish people, and unfortunately it worked. It terrified my mate.

Flying back to Sydney right after the Palestine rally in Naarm, wearing my Palestine hoodie and kuffiyeh. In the boarding queue, I get pulled aside by airline staff who asked to come with them. Here I am thinking “oh shit, this can’t be good”…
I get led to the front of the line, they whisper “from the river to the sea”, and board me ahead of everyone else. This is so wild. Being Palestinian has never been a privilege, even now. But I’m getting emotional just thinking about how different this is from 10 years ago. 😭🇵🇸

1/ The position of Human Rights Commissioner @lorrainejfinlay at @AusHumanRights is untenable. She is not the Race Discrimination Comissioner, and yet she chose to pen an article, which, on the surface, appears to be about antisemitism, ie. race discrimination.
2/ But that's not really what it's about. It is not a principled plea against antisemitism. Antisemitism, like all forms of racism, is a scourge on society, which we should all condemn and challenge whenever it rears its ugly head. This is about Palestine.

🧵We have consistently warned that the violent occupation of Palestine — now in its 75th year — along with the two decades of complete military blockade of the Gaza Strip, was a completely unsustainable situation that could not be maintained indefinitely.
2/ Peaceful forms of non-violent direct action, like BDS, were denounced and criticised and even criminalised in some parts of the world. Peaceful protest was maligned as antisemitic. There was simply no peaceful Palestinian movement that was palatable to the rest of the world.

1/ In this 🧵 I'm going to address some of the nonsense surrounding Adelaide Writers' Week and demonstrate how the press is absolutely complicit in the dehumanisation of Palestinians with just one small case study.
2/ Take this claim from The Australian: "El-Kurd has [...] accused Zionists of eating the organs of Palestinians".
Where does this originate? What did Mohammed El-Kurd actually say?
