It has been nearly TWO FULL OLYMPIC CYCLES since the IOC said that trans women dont have to castrate themselves to participate in international elite sport and there are a few things that are clear:

1. There has not been a takeover or domination by gender non-confirming athletes 2. There is no proven consistent uniform standard to which there is an advantage conferred on to trans women by having gone through hormone therapy after puberty.

2a. Some advantages in specific categories have been found, but not consistently.

2b. These differ widely.

I’m still absolutely astonished these paragraphs got published without any sort of introspection about the racial component they are alluding to and just not saying. Image This misplaced arena is literally next door and regularly draws 70,000+ crowds for SOCCER. If the NHL doesn’t think it can get 17k in downtown Atlanta please be honest about why you don’t think so 🤭🤭🤭 Image

More people are saying this Anyway I’ve pitched longform articles on this to no avail :))) (some of the reasons I was turned down were off the record!!)

Weird how an explicit campaign to erode the civil rights of a group of Americans is framed as such. nytimes.com/2023/04/16/us/… Idk man, feels really weird watching my existence be framed as some electoral fodder completely detached from any of the implications.

Hoo boy. There’s a lot going on here. Im not surprised 1. This story was commissioned or 2. It’s scope is apparently “trans kids are making my job harder by getting politicians to pass laws against them”

Also, if/when Alex’s story gets corroborated I don’t think the editors at The FP will *care*. Their story, one where a parent feels that they have the right to intervene in their child’s care regardless of what best practices say is *the story*. That doesn’t need corroboration. If does not matter at all if the parent is right or wrong, that’s their belief and one the FP editorial leadership endorses. The notion a parent could not have full control over their kids identity and how powerless they are is the story, regardless of what other perspectives say

Here’s the thing that’s most galling about that Yoffe/Weiss article, they’ll claim that they talked to the child in question and included their views. And their correct! But that’s not the insidious part.

The child directly contradicted their reporting and they didn’t follow up It’s one thing to include a quote for balance, but we’ve all had stories where a new source throws everything into question. Reporters want to publish because they’ve worked hard. But just including that without doing any follow up is dangerous.

The immediate red flags are going to Vernadette Broyles, trying to hastily remove an implant despite doctors warning not to, and the repeated misgendering of their own child, despite the child saying "I am nonbinary." I empathize so much with them, though. It sounds real tough :( Like the kid said they were interviewed but the parents' identity is foisted on them. That is super irresponsible as a journalist! Also suggesting you know better medial practices than actual doctors???

Maybe, finally, people will see how the UK is basically leading a media crusade against trans women from every prominent outlet and the pushback they received was quickly marginalized. That’s why it’s incredible when more journos in the US stand up.

Yeah how dare those gays force the agenda of wanting to not be treated different in public life and have access to all facilities our peers do. People fought for a long time for these nights and the second the whole league was like “yeah this is a cause worthy of endorsing” hockey players freaked the Fuck out and for their sake there wasn’t any pushback!

I honestly don’t know what else to say about these bans. It’s a political decision that defines womanhood differently in different spheres of public life with no recognition or admission of responsibility for how it impacts a highly marginalized group. Sport will stand behind its autonomy while governments take this and run with it using state power to suppress people’s rights. A like about how this doesn’t impact grassroots activities is both not enough, and a lie. Sport bears responsibility here and will conveniently duck it.

“A 64 percent majority of trans adults say they have been verbally attacked because of their gender identity, gender expression or sexual identity, and 25 percent say they have been physically attacked.”

washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/… 2/3 of trans people in this survey said they knew they were trans before they were 18.

However, only 31 percent of people reported that they have access to gender affirming healthcare such as hormones. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/…

INBOX: @HRC warns that 50% of transgender youth in America could lose access to gender affirming primary care thanks to new laws from state legislatures across the country. I would like to say to papers who are investing coverage into trans youth, doing news stories about this wave, without looking at who is behind it and how losing your primary care doctor who affirms you affects your day to day life is not actually covering it.

I need people to understand that there are two major political decisions being taken in sports right now: state actors banning trans athletes from competing based on identity, and sports bodies limiting categories to become more rigid despite expansive gender identities existing. They are very different bodies with very different ideals but they are two sides of the same coin, no matter how different they present themselves. Separating them allows each to wield their power stronger. Meanwhile the IOC has ceded its bully pulpit to federations.

Claiming “transgenderism must be eradicated” aka thinking people’s identity is an ideology, will not change the fact you called for us to be forcibly changed against our will to fit into your perception of public life. So yes you called us to be eradicated. I am not a man. I’ve never been a man. I was perceived as one because it took me 27 years to come to term with who I fundamentally am. Claiming you want me to exist as a false notion to fit your ideology is no different than eradicating who I am.

It’s weird how much these “I’m just being cautious” pundits want to believe the most salacious stories about kids in gender clinics right? Like I have absolutely no doubt in my mind of all the kids of all time who sought gender affirming care one has told a psychiatrist earnestly they identify as a rock or other object in nature. That does not mean this is a trend or a tactic to just get hormonal treatment fast.

I regret to inform society writ large that the New York KNICKS may be good, but they are for a fact very fun. I’m going to be very VERY insufferable if we win a playoff series for the first time in 10 years.

The New York Times response to the open letter contributors and other reporters signed basically defends it’s coverage of the trans community but includes a really noteworthy line about its perspective, imo: Image The full thing can be read here hellgatenyc.com/new-york-times…, but by continuing to focus on how “society is grappling” with this treatment the Times is taking a side about transgender medical care. That side is, it’s totally okay for it’s fundamental right to exist to be questioned.
