Fandom anti-shipping really is the best thing that ever happened to predatory adults in fannish spaces

Predators can surround themselves w/thousands of teenagers & claim they’re the ‘only safe adult’ bc they call the right ships ‘pedophilia’ & ‘incest’

It’s horrifying Other predatory adults might claim to be the ‘only safe adult’ bc they ‘share’ their targets’ ships & will ‘protect’ them from antis … while getting inappropriately intimate with minors themselves

Insistently equating fiction & reality has created a child predator paradise—>

1- As morbidly entertaining as watching the muskrat make a fool of himself has been …

I’m getting some serious flashbacks to watching Drumpf make a fool of himself as POTUS

Both men are bulls who bought china shops on accident: destruction wasn’t the goal, but it’s the result 2- some may argue that destruction was the goal. But I think both of them stumbled into a level of responsibility they didn’t actually want.

Like Drumpf, the muskrat is starting slow: breaking everything, but trying to put it back together when they get yelled at for it.

As you can see this tweet has already been ratioed to heck: it’s clearly not a widely shared opinion & shouldn’t be seen as indicative of general anti-shipper views

But I hate that I can see the ‘reasoning’ like a weird haze of mist 🙃 they think preg kink is about the *fetus* No, seriously: I think they’re calling pregnancy kink ‘pedophilia’ bc they think the person w/the kink must be (1) the non-pregnant person, (2) the partner doing penetration, & (3) kinking on the UNBORN FETUS

Literally: “You’re into fcking a BABY that ISNT EVEN BORN YET”

It’s unfortunate that one has to make the clarification, but when people say ‘Watsuki is a pedophile’ they mean ‘Watsuki owned videos of real 12yo girls being sexually assaulted’ - that is, CSEM.

Watsuki sexually abused children by consuming CSAM & I doubt he’s stopped doing it what a good old boys club the shonen jump offices must be. Many Jump mangaka start out as assistants, & their frantic pace means living in one another’s armpits. Did his assistants know about the CSEM while working with Watsuki? What would they have to give up if they spoke up?

The way we use some of these old terms now (August 2022), if it’s changed: a (much shorter) thread 🧵 Crackship: any ship that isn’t canon.

Rarepair: sometimes used as a synonym to crackfic.

Thinking about how all the microidentities we have are beautiful to witness - our unique stories, crystallized - but also a reflection of how the unregulated free market has atomized consumers for its own gain, weaponizing our uniqueness against group solidarity Every attempt to draw a crystal clear line between who’s in and who’s out, who belongs and who doesn’t, erases & silences huge swathes of people who are somewhere in between.

Being messy and ill-defined - existing in multiple identities at once - is not always a weakness.

Old fandom shipping terms & how they were used: a thread 🧵 OTP: One True Pairing

Your inviolate ship. You don’t ship characters in this ship with anyone but each other.

OT3: One True Threesome

Your inviolate polycule. Often used when canon has a love triangle & you like any combination of the 3 characters involved.

This has already been removed, but I’m saving it for posterity because it’s an absolutely *stunning* distillation of the most common fandom anti-shipping arguments in current use (August 2022).

Also, note that fantis now fully believe ‘proship’ is short for ‘problematic ships’. This is seriously a golden anthropological find. If you wanted a summary of both what anti-shippers believe & how they abuse others with those beliefs, these two screencaps are a complete guide, including the ‘honey trap’ summary & blaming their victims for their own harassment.

gendercrits have gone utterly masks-off lately, feeling safe in revealing the Full Transphobia, but I still think it’s important to remember the foundations they lay for pulling in recruits from progressive spaces: i.e. the pre-transphobic ideology known as Radical Feminism. 🧵 I call it non-intersectional radical feminism bc what specifically makes it so messed up is the lack of intersectionality.

The base belief of radical feminism, & thus ‘gender critical feminists’ (GCs), is that sex-based misogyny is the universal, worldwide cause of all evil.🧵

… Calling fictional ships ‘illegal’ will never not be funny to me

(Short 🧵) Image what is meant, of course, is usually ‘if these characters were real people & had sex at their canon ages, it would be statutory rape’*.

(*alternatively: ‘these characters are legally immediate family, & I believe that incestuous sex is illegal, not just common social taboo’.) 🧵

Ciel “keep your prey close and your predators closer” Phantomhive TW // fictional CSA

Okay but I genuinely want to talk about how Black Butler’s story arc has come to revolve around Ciel being the target of two child predators - one he has some measure of control over (Sebastian), & one he doesn’t (the current antagonist, The Undertaker).

I need to do a thread about how the existence of Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji & its fandom is a perfect scapegoat for fantis to use for recruitment I should clarify that for a long time, I think Black Butler was a series that fantis were allowed to enjoy as long as they did it the ‘right’ way - don’t ship the ‘bad’ ships, etc.

I think it’s possible that as standards shift, Black Butler is now too problematic to fan over.

For anyone who might have missed it, here’s a very level-headed tumblr post about the OTW elections by (I believe) a tag wrangler 1/3 I like it bc I disagree with Tiffany G, but some of the accusations I’ve seen flying around in my periphery are. Uh. Very Yellow Scare.

Not all of them, by any means - lots of people are making perfectly reasonable arguments. But enough to make me 🙃 2/3

Thinking about what it would take to make a site that fantis would find comfortable to use & if it’s worth trying to build something like that, then hand it off to people who actually want to run it 🤔 AO3 is open-source, yes, but building a site isn’t easy, you know? & ironically, back-end site programming is an increasingly niche skill. It’s been a long time since people were building geocities sites & customizing their MySpace
