Today is the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, apostles, twin pillars of the apostolic witness, but very different in character and role.... St Peter was there from the River Jordan to the Ascension. His nickname was ‘the rock’ but he was often ‘rocky’ until at the lakeside the Risen One gives him three chances to undo his denials, with no bitterness, and confers pastoral leadership on the basis of his flawed love.
