We cannot yet say the countdown of Modi’s fascist regime has begun. It has not acquired the necessary pace, force, momentum to set the time schedule.

Some signals are available about Modi losing grip over his power and its misuse. That is the beginning of the end of fascism.
/1
Much hope for the opposition parties was not due to their own efforts but due to failures, arrogance, the overconfidence of Modi regime, the usual traits of a fascist.

The first turning point that emerged over the last 7 years was the peaceful democratic protest against CAA.
/2
But Covid gave some breathing space to Modi regime and the movement lost its momentum.
The hopes again revived and kept alive by farmers’ protests when the election schedule and the recent 2nd wave of Covid stole some of its limelight.
But the ruthlessness of rulers continued.

Rahul is repeatedly emphasising on various platforms the need for discussions, interactions, negotiations. This is almost totally neglected, absent.
It gives primacy to the merit of the issues, not individuals. This is the need of the hour and a democratic right of the people.
/1
Most of the misunderstanding, disputes, issues are due to the absence of continuous dynamic discussions with a focus to eliminate points of irrelevance and consolidate views, evolve solutions with consensus or majority opinion. We are not enlightening people but burning homes.
/2
Rahul has turned the pages of Congress history, reverted to its principles and Gandhi’s call to look inwards.
It is very sane and wise to adopt this approach by all, irrespective of the party, groups they belong.
But those who thrive on confusions, divisions will reject them.

Sonia respects past practices, negotiations to cautiously steer Congress party.
These negotiations & discussions were between senior trusted leaders as she was relying more on them for expertise, information, execution.
The decisions naturally protected leaders, not the party.
/1
It is advantageous to keep traditional practices. But they are to be analysed periodically or even concurrently both for successes & failures.
There is always a constant deterioration. Even for maintaining status quo, there is need for improvement, changes.
That includes INC.
/2
But continuing with past practices without appropriate evaluations will work against revival and restructuring.

It may hurt some when pragmatic, analytical decisions are evolved and implemented. So such problematic issues are avoided and the deterioration continues.

What was the position of Rahul in 2019? Has he gained in strength, stature, acceptability and credibility?
He speaks out his mind more frequently of late in measured steps. His vision, perception, path, target are very clear. He is tightening his grip over Congress and masses.
/1
The signals are subtle as Rahul is not rushing through the process.

We are to understand the situation as it existed in Congress before 2019. Then connect the various signals to perceive the hidden logics and their connectivity to visualise developments in right perspective.
/2
Bringing transformations in Congress structure, practices are not so easy. There can be diverse views in a democratic party.

But their uniformity in lure for power, positions than for Congress principles, culture & the political direction required, hurt its survival, revival.

Rahul - Aikido tips to students:
Some impressions:

The simplicity, the ease with which he walks down and mingles with young students, make them feel so comfortable.
He readily accepts a request for teaching Aikido.

/1
He demonstrates a technique that is useful to them.
He picks up the shoes of a girl to keep them aside saying I do touch shoes no problem(1.20).
His spirit and intent are down to earth.
He listens, interacts, discusses, observes and clarifies even the minutest points.
/2
It indicates the extent to which he is clear about principles, concepts.
He extrapolates Aikido for using inner strength; true empowerment of women.
He even relates it to Congress(3.27), how it gains strength from opposing forces.
Rahul knows it better about himself, Congress.

When the preamble of the constitution of India starts with “We The People Of India” we feel glorified, superhuman. When fascists elected by us are beating us to a pulp and leaving us pulseless, we feel helpless with all the negativity, passivity flooding our thoughts and mind.
/1
We are perplexed. We are unable to correct our thought process. We presume that our views, ideas, opinion are largely right; question why others are unreasonable, illogical.

We do not get all facts on hand to come to firm conclusions. We should search for ideas, information.
/2
Everyone functions within their limitations. No one achieves anything on their own including the scientists, experts. The contributions and efforts of many others are also involved behind such achievements. But we are not so professional in our personal, political decisions.

Most of us are conscious of our right not so much about the rights of others or the truth or justifications behind them.
Our opinions, views are ‘sticky’ and do not get out of our mind even if illogical.

We have a closed mind, not dispassionate while we refuse to admit them.
/1
The opinions, views, conclusions that float around about every issue, every angle, its origin, its solutions widely vary. The versions and conclusions are innumerable in quality and content.

But what is true and right do not vary except over time due to improvements, changes.
/2
Why should there be so much variation and varieties in deviating so much away or around the truth?
It is due to imperfect thought processes, failed leadership, lack of confidence in them.
We are not robots to come with identical, unitary conclusions but can evolve a consensus.

People are not unreasonable. They have heart, compassion. Even when they are not aware of facts, they are amenable to reasons if the issues are presented dispassionately, objectively.
Then why should there be so many aversions, disputes, divides, hatred? It is not justifiable.
/1
People are fed and misled with mutilated and perverted opinions, views, misinformation covertly or overtly. They are inebriated, stupified with convoluted logic, narratives to convert their mindset, insecurities provoking their basic instincts, impulsive actions.
/2
It is not that the majority of people succumb to such designs, machinations but their silence, passivity against deliberate aggressive agenda set by tricksters, mischief-makers fail to prevent and stop but also allow them to spread causing incalculable damage to this country.

Behind the mixed signals which proliferate, corrupt perceptions and truth, an epic battle has started for liberating democracy and its incarceration by the fascists, vested interests.
Rahul is leading it. But it is we the people who are to fight to protect our values, freedom.
/1
Before independence, they were only aspiring for freedom and democracy. That always exist within all sections of Indian society.
But the post-independence generation has enjoyed its benefits. It is not easy to suppress, subjugate them. They will raise en masse to protect it.
/2
India is still not a mature democracy. It got diverted from that process by the opportunistic politicians and privileged people to serve their ends and supremacy.

The present tryst with fascism and crony capitalism will set right the path towards true democracy and freedom.

The basic characteristics of individuals do not normally change. That is true for all characters whether negative or positive.

Rahul is also the same person, genial, warm, hearty, frank as he was earlier. But a negative perception was floating about him. It is changing now.
/1
How that wrong perception about Rahul was built? It is typical work of BJP/ RSS and the media bias even before 2014. Everyone had an agenda whether political or personal to spread hatred against the so-called dynasty while destroying democracy and paving the way for a fascist.
/2
The attempt was to weaken and destroy Congress and Rahul. They sowed seeds of doubts about Rahul and his leadership.
All political leaders including many Congress leaders worked against Rahul, openly or silently.
Congress structure was already weak. Rahul had to take his time.

Making sense of confusing signals is becoming a difficult exercise with the widespread use of communication tools and the internet.

Some think they are smart to read between the lines. But they should also be aware fake news and falsehood are also planted between the lines.
/1
Falsehood diffuses significantly farther, faster, deeper, and more broadly than the truth.

Identifying and eliminating what is irrelevant and fake is not so easy even for the so-called educated, literate or semi-literate individuals with worldly knowledge and experience.
/2
If this is for educated, one should not come to the conclusion that poor and uneducated cannot make sense of what is right and wrong.
They may be simple and unsophisticated but they apply their intuitions and heart. Their subconscious discerns the right and wrong characters.

Missed target

Modi thought his Bangladesh visit would help the BJP in Bengal. But every action has multiple effects in politics.

BJP had made ‘illegal infiltration’ a big issue in Assam. Shah built his entire campaign attacking AIUDF leader Ajmal for supporting infiltrators.
/1
Modi’s sweet talk in Dhaka blunted the edge of Shah’s emotive plank. His attacks on Ajmal sounded hollow as AIUDF leader tweeted and wished Modi a pleasant stay in Bangladesh; requested him to discuss the deportation of illegal immigrants, border sealing to stop infiltration.
/2
Modi has not raised these issues. Congress was uncomfortable with Shah’s focus on AIUDF, now feels Shah’s blusters on Ajmal sound like a joke.

BJP’s 8-phase polling for Bengal also helped Congress as it could delink Kerala allowing Rahul to enter Bengal later. It thanks BJP.

Excerpts: Rahul’s brilliant interaction - with Prof. Ashutosh Varshney, faculty, students...

Part 5 -Topic: “Stop and look at yourself” Gandhiji.

It covers how Rahul looked at himself, the criticisms heaped on him by Modi/ BJP/ RSS; how their attack on his sense is a gift.

Q
You said something really extraordinarily beautiful. But I think, this is you and ‘not necessarily the Congress party’. You have replaced the idea of Swaraj with the beautiful idea of shunyata and I want to know...

Rahul:
No no. You would be surprised, very very surprised.
/2
There are hundreds and hundreds of Congress workers who had this idea. The problem is they are not in power. They are there.
I can tell you name after name after name who is sitting there, literally doing harakiri, right - political. He is eating himself.

Part 4 - Topic: Understanding Gandhiji, Swarajya, Shunyata, Giving up power.

This is an interesting exploration, explanation by Rahul. Many may not be aware of. So sharing it.

Q - Leela:
Mr Gandhi, the concept of Swaraj self-rule was of course a rallying cry for the Congress party in the early decades of the 20th century it was a slogan for independence from Imperial rule and as well as the source says, M K Gandhi’s Hind Swaraj.
/2
It expressed a highly original, ethical, spiritual vision of Indian democracy in which simply the powerful give up the right to rule over, dominate, oppress, injure the powerless, therefore men or women, the Hindu majority over various religious minorities, the rich over poor.

Excerpts: Rahul’s brilliant interaction - with Professor Ashutosh Varshney, faculty, and students...
Part 3 - Topic: electoral autocracy.

Here I am presenting the gist or essence of this conversation without diluting the spirit and beauty of its contents.
/1
Q:
Two of the leading non-governmental agencies that rate or assess democratic health in the world the Freedom House and the V-Dem Institute in Sweden, both have downgraded Indian democracy. Freedom House calls India now ‘partly free’; V-Dem terms it as ‘Electoral autocracy’.
/2
V-dem Institute following political science & its own research says that when democratic polities start attacking civil liberties, then civil society Institutions and then independent Institutions then the next step is typically an attack on the integrity of elections itself.

This thread is another brief extract of Rahul’s online interactions with Professor Ashutosh Varshney, faculty, and students...

The contents are very valuable, important to reproduce and record in text format.
Such contents will help to educate people and perhaps many INCians.

Q: Assault on institutions -
Are you, in particular, referring to the Judiciary or some other independent institutions?

Rahul:

I am telling you every single institution. There is not a single institution that is not under this type of assault.
/2
To give you some nuance, my mic is switched off in parliament. In the middle, while I am giving a speech it is switched off. So the essence of parliament is that I am allowed to speak, the essence of parliament is that when I am speaking the country can see what I am saying.

This thread is a brief extract of Rahul’s online interactions with Professor Ashutosh Varshney, faculty, and students...

Rarely one comes across an impromptu, spontaneous interaction that contains such a brilliant, concise, unadulterated truth, full of sense and nothing else.
/1
Q:
You argued ‘politics in India have become a fight for India not just a fight for power’.
Biden before elections in 2020 argued ‘it was not about a change in power in Washington it was about soul of America’.
Is your claim similar to Biden’s claim or substantially different?
/2
Rahul:

To me, India is many different diverse viewpoints, many different languages, different cultures, different histories, different ideas. Modern India to me is essentially an ongoing negotiation between those ideas, those cultures.

Rahul now draws his power not as a member of the ‘dynasty’ but from the family of Congress cadres, supporters and most of its leaders.

He is strong-willed; shouldering the cross and hope of all. He is taking the bull by its horns with emphatic, forceful, forthright views.
/1
Rahul undertakes Townhall type interactions with diverse sections of people, Congress youth wing, apart from open intellectual discussions with eminent personalities, educationists, experts.

It is possible for him to elevate it to include party cadres, leaders. It is needed.
/2
The direct channels for interactions, discussions with people and party cadres, leaders, supporters in an appropriate format including Townhall type will set the change in Congress.
His down to earth messages of truth earns respect of all.
Not many in politics can match Rahul.

If one believes in Congress principles, policies and become its member then they should know that everyone is equal before the organisation to voice opinions, ideas and make contributions for its growth.
It does not become a right to demand power, position for their growth.
/1
The basic human failings of egos, importance, aspirations, parity in power/ position do exist. But it raises to an ugly pitch due to organisational weaknesses, absence of active, failproof, impartial mechanisms for making decisions, solving disputes, enforcing disciplines.
/2
The sad truth is that most of the Congress leaders are suffering from these failings. We cannot send everyone to a ‘correctional course’.
Congress is also to share the blame for not correcting its course when the deviations went unnoticed, uncorrected and nearly unmanageable.

Groups within Congress get active only when organisational structure is weak as its principles, system got eroded overtime. Congress should revive, restructure, reinforce its strengths but not due to the demands, threats of groups but to fight, overcome their destructive ways.
/1
The advent of a new strain of power politics five decades back introduced the tool of polarisation of people on every visible crack.

This changed political dynamics and priorities before the nation. It has to be corrected for the survival of our democracy and also Congress.
/2
Congress is not just a political party but it is a movement which many of the present generations may not be aware of.

Congress still represents basic ethos, culture, aspirations of people democratically within the constitutional structure and spirit it created.

This narration is not a chart of measures for the consideration of the new President of INC. It is only a brief outlook about issues involved and the need for its leaders, cadres to extend support to their President to uphold the supremacy of their organisation and its system.
/1
A gist or bullet points for measures to be initiated may not carry the weight when presented by an outsider. Brevity will not convey its need, impact. The details, justifications should form part of the suggestions. It will not be complete without interactions in a platform.
/2
We have unlimited talents, vision to contribute to such a platform. The ideas, the spark may be small or big but how it is developed, evolved, consolidated to near perfection with free interactions, discussions are more pertinent, essential. A team with total focus is needed.
