I see a lot of interview related tweets today. I interviewed over 700 candidates, phone screened over 500 and hired over 100 engineers. Here are a few things I learned. Your situation and goals might be different so don't take these as recommendations, merely my experience.
At every place I worked, hiring the wrong person has been the costliest thing. The goal is hire someone; the plan is to spend significant effort to get them up to speed quickly, not just because it is costly not to, but also good engineers want to become productive ASAP.
