John Silver is a storyteller stuck in someone else's story. He's had elements of the normalcy he maintained for years to survive chipped away; he's lost his leg & his ability to remain unmoved by others' plights. Understanding this is intrinsic to understanding the ending.

Silver has experienced "untold horrors" he can't share, to an extent where when he's been pushed to the brink & sees a chance to MAKE A WAR STOP, he takes it, consequences be damned. Deep inside he's still a kid who went through unimaginable things, & he can't watch it anymore.

Hello. I'm here to talk about how #BlackSails' use of subtext is revolutionary, & how the fact that #Silverflint is KEPT AS SUBTEXT was not only a deliberate choice but the right one.
This thread no one asked for is brought to you by Steinberg's quotes validating my thoughts.
While digging into content about this show, I've noticed a (VERY) small corner of fans who hate that Silverflint is "only subtext" & think it was some cardinal sin. They've missed... several points. After yelling in DMs I'm tweeting to get it out of my system & in one place.
