This CBO thing is really bugging me and I can't let it go.

This @employamerica piece describes some of the issues with some of the assumptions made by the CBO. This is a great piece and you should read all of it. (1/n) employamerica.medium.com/potential-outp… There is this one part that horrified me, as I tweeted just a bit ago.

CBO assumes there are age-race-sex-education specific natural rates of unemployment. (2/n)

I find this back & forth fascinating because they are talking about kind of narrow things, but the implications of the Ellora & Claire's paper is massive!

This is what econ has been lacking for years & explains why we are in the where we are (thread incoming!) I tweeted about the paper this morning, but it bears repeating - the minimum wage increase in 1967 reduced gaps in racial inequality!

Each #JobsDay, I primarily focus on the Black-White unemployment gap as it shows us a manifestation of systemic racism. While the ratio dropped to near par in April (as everyone experienced job loss), it has started to rise again in May. (1/11) However, this Jobs Day (tomorrow not Friday) I will pay close attention to the unemployment rate for Black women as their outcomes are key to understanding labor market dynamics. Last month, unemployment rose for them while it fell for many other groups. (2/11)

I'm kind of bad at promoting myself. I posted a thread of policing research I did.

Turns out I forgot another publication and some (relevant) writings for @urbaninstitute.

First here is original thread:
@urbaninstitute I have a paper in the first Journal of the Center for Policy Analysis and Research (@CBCFInc) finds a positive relationship between militarization and police violence.

I found that this relationship was stronger in communities with a larger Latinx population.

Between what happened in NYC & Minnesota, it has been a hard 24 hours. It has been especially hard since I just spoke about the role of policing during this pandemic last Thursday as part of the @NJPolicy Progress 2020 event with @Brandon_McKoy & @EricaWilli. This is the Part 1 of the clip.

I have a new op-ed sounding the alarm about this pandemic and rural America. If we are not careful, we will lose too many communities to this virus. (1/15) insidesources.com/the-coronaviru… This may sound alarmist but the virus is dangerous. My @amprog colleague, @willingham_zoe and I, back in early March showed these places don’t have the capacity to tackle this crisis. (2/15) americanprogress.org/issues/economy…

There has been a lot of discussion about when #TheNextRecession is coming, given that we are in midst of the longest expansion in modern history. (1/7) As part of this discussion, some economists have tried to get ahead of this by preparing the country to better handle the next recession (see the hashtags #RecessionReady & #TheNextRecession).
