The glitter shoes are on.

That can me only one thing, I'm going to #minnebar! Dark denim jeans and black ... You can tell it is early for me because I missed the rest of the word "mean".

It is going to be a large coffee day.

Did the insurance company call me back today?

Of course not. So I now have sent an email to my former employer trying to get this whole thing untangled so I don't have to pay cash for a doctor appointment I thought was covered.

Because once again, the health insurance system in the U.S. sucks.

Dudes, stop being creepy!

Jenn's bare bones accessibility cheatsheet.

Because the web needs to be more accessible than it was in 1994. 1. Can you tab to every link, form field, interaction point?

Just hit tab and make sure everything is in a logical order.

Drop down menus can be opened via enter or spacebar.

Or if your nav menus suck for keyboard you have a site map easily accessible by EVERYONE.

This is your reminder that company logos on a Sponsors page or section for a conference NEED ALT TEXT.

Also cheating by making the alts blank mean that no one that uses assistive technology knows who is sponsoring. Is that what your sponsors want? Also please double check color contrast.

And remember links should have two ways to show they are links. Underline, change colors, bold, whatever do something in addition to having the cursor change.

This tweet in this thread hits hard.

My extended family only had use for me when I was useful. Like on my father's side, whenever I was there I was used for labor.

To this day I hate drywall.

I want to go in depth more on this one.

I have had juniors angry with me after asking for help when I had the answer. They felt they should have known if I knew it right away.

In those times, I explain why they should NOT have known because some things only come with experience I also tell stories of times when I struggled and asked for help and was defeated when the person helping knew the answer right away.

Only to be told that BECAUSE I struggled and got all the right things set up they were able to solve the issue right away.

How not to be an ass when a junior asks you for help.

1. Ask them to summarize what they have done so far.
2. Ask what terms they used to search.
3. If there is documentation, ask if they know where it is.
4. Tell them the appropriate amount of time to struggle. 5. Praise them for struggling the right amount of time.

Claire again with an excellent point.

Not everyone can afford activities. I somehow never got charged rent for the bassoon I played senior year....

A local church bought me my letterman's jacket. I wasn't even going to get one but one day there it was.

I'll see where the afternoon takes me.

This whole thread.

It has made me think through multiple conflicts I have had at work and how "real talk" basically shuts down management. Like when I was drowning in work, asking for help, and my boss asked me point blank if I wanted to quit and why didn't I ask for help.

I showed her the emails and call logs where I did.

First off, no alt text on the bad take images.

Second, SHAMING people for not making PUBLIC commits?

This is the toxic cesspool tech promotes. There are lots of reasons why someone would not have daily commits.

Family, hobbies, illness, burn out.

I consider the solid green commit history a red flag.

This right here.

It is weird when you finally get enough money and you just end up saving because you don't know what to do with money. When you can buy a GOOD coat to keep you warm.

When you can buy good shoes and they last more than 3 months.

When you can buy fancy bread with seeds.

This whole thread is great.

And it brings up a good point, many times there is a technology familiarity and power imbalance in a couple. AKA one sets up all the tech for the household. If that person becomes abusive, they can use the house against you.

How do you pull everything out? Do you know what all tech is in your house?

La la la la

I'm making myself lunch.

Oh look chicken tenders, I'll make a kick ass salad!

Put tenders on a plate to microwave, lick crumbs off my fingers, look at microwave times. What? This bag looks different than the usual kind I get.

Read ingredients. Read allergy info. Read ingredients again.

Say fuck and go get Benadryl.

Hi! My first job was a janitor. An actual janitor.

The dude Chloe is quote tweeting has no fucking idea what janitors do and how they are important. I was a janitor for an alternative school and for an office building.

I spent five years cleaning sharpie off of dry erase boards. I got hallway floors clean that never were clean.

It is weird having your mom call you and say, "Well, I'm screwed and can't get the vaccine."

She's has had anaphylaxis five times and she is allergic to biologics.

Yes, I know that guidance is only for the Pfizer vaccine, but people are allowed to be angry and sad about it. Allergies suck.

Medicine likes to ignore them until someone whines about not wanting to be killed by their allergies.

And then you are being whiny.

Today's accessibility rant.

Pixel perfect.

It doesn't exist. Everything from operating system to browser to physical monitor impacts the size and shape of the pixels.

Some browsers round down, some browsers round up.
