My salary was frozen - I never received a pay raise, never moved up the pay scale. However, the cost of my insurance went up every year.

1/ @nhannahjones @AlecMacGillis I took home less than $500 a week for teaching there. I could afford it - by living alone in a 400 square foot apartment. Otherwise it would have been renting with multiple roomates. As a professional with multiple degrees.

I did not choose that job because of my selfishness.

People criticized the last Fantastic Four movie, perhaps even more harshly than the previous two (which were terrible).

I kind of liked it as a whole. But I had issues with how the FF got their powers- I never thought of Reed Richards as that irresponsible.

1/ But as I'm rereading old Amazing Spider-Man comics, I got to issue 100, where VERY responsible (it's kind of his thing) Peter Parker used an untested drug on himself to try to rid himself of his spider powers

So my ranking is right at 4000 in legend in #Hearthstone . I feel like I lose about 500 ranks a day if I don't play, so I'm going to try to make a run for the next 3 hours and see if I can move up the ladder. So I'd gone 19-13 to get from 5100 down to 4000, where I started today. Playing tempo DH, I went 10-13 and somehow dropped down to 5395...

I drop so much more for a loss than I gain when I win.

I might practice with warrior some, or dragon hunter.

Stayed up way too late, but got legend at #Hearthstone tonight. Played an aggro demon hunter to get there, went 29-17 tonight to get it. Broke even against other DHs, beat hunter, mage, rogue pretty soundly. I didn't even know they made 20,000 legends...

As I'm home alone, I'm listening to "The 50 greatest live albums ever" according to NME (whatever that is). I figured here was as good a place as any to record my journey.

When I was in college in my 30s in Minnesota, outside the six science buildings was a somewhat crazy homeless man that would perform for tips. Some days he'd play guitar and sing songs that he made up on the spot.

1/ Other days he'd read Harry Potter, but he'd read it like he was a Minister reading the Gospel. (It worked, quite honestly, and I've never looked at those books the same)

I'm a public school teacher in Portland. Yesterday there were a bunch of fascists walking around yelling stupid stuff. Of course I protested. That's my job as a citizen.

The president wants to label me a terrorist for that. It makes me Antifa.

Fuck that guy. No mask, no weapons, just a voice saying, "We don't like what you say because it's filled with hate".

If you don't like that, you're free to call my school district and say, "Hey, your Computer Science teacher protests against fascism!"

@fivefifths First, I'm all for equity in feeding kids, and the school that I work at has made it so that all breakfasts are free to everyone, but I don't think lunches are, but I could be wrong (not my paygrade).

I'd love to see all kids eat both breakfast and lunch free. But, and it's a big but...

That means everyone out there with a job needs to pay more taxes. It's not like most school districts are flush with money. If we divert funds to pay for everyone to eat, well, class sizes get bigger, music gets cut, etc.

Saying, "Keep politics out of classrooms," is impossible. I sort of understand people who have never been a teacher trying to believe this false ideal, but it's terrifying the number of teachers who believe this. Classrooms are inherently political. Politics for decades have decided what students will learn, how they will learn, when they will learn it, and how much money will be spent on them learning it.

Even attempting to be apolitical in a classroom is political.

Ariana Grande has the top three songs on the Billboard charts. This hasn't been done since the Beatles. It's musically significant. As a music fan, and someone who doesn't want to be the old guy complaining about music these days, I had to listen to the songs. /1 So I listened to Araina Grande's hit songs AND her whole album. I'm officially one of those old guys that doesn't get it. It's completely unlistenable to me. /2
