After long deliberations & debates, I feel closest to the term 'loose adaptation' for The Rings of Power. (subjectively)

Per its dictionary meaning (without any value connotation) 'fan-fiction' almost always has the characteristic of lacking copyright authorisation. Then,

1/15 In my head, 'canon' refers to anything the artist thought, spoke, wrote (including each version if changed several times) published or unpublished, became public when artist was alive or publicised after death; all constitute 'canon'.

Therefore ,

It’s been a year since Alloy, the season finale of @lotronprime aired, and millenniums since story of Adam and Eve; and I decided to share a take relating to both.

This is a thread about the original suggestions of Rings of Power,Tolkien Lore and Abrahamic Myth;

1/23 An analysis I write as I go, full of writing mistakes (English is my 2nd language) claiming no theological method/religious virtue or artistic objectivity - just a pop-culture discussion

I'll use some terms interchangeably though experts would never. 2/23

Tolkien, a Catholic man in love with a woman, living in England at a time when homosexuality is a crime, didn't have much reason to speak about the subject.

Although he had at least three queer people in his life with whom he shared good friendship and literary interests. 1/9 Mary Renault had already published her lesbian novel 'The Friendly Young Ladies' and a gay romance 'The Charioteer', living with her female partner for a long time by the time Tolkien expressed his pleasure of their exchanges and how deeply he's engaged in her books. 2/9

Tolkien didn’t write an allegory but openly said his readers could seek historical applicability

Those who apply Northern European context to the story cannot prevent me from applying the historical fact that queer people existed for thousands of years but were hiding mostly 1/5 And most them had no option than either living alone or binding themselves to a heterosexual partnership. Very often in those ancient European days you glorify too

You cant take parts of historical realities you like to apply those to Tolkien and then deny it to other people 2/5

Tolkien and my family…

My sister is a statistician (phd) with an MA in theology & currently completing an MA in philosophy… She’s a revisionist muslim who approaches religious from a philosophical and human rights perspective but still, her faith and the inherent dogmatism + in that faith has been a big topic of many heated debates between us as I do not identify with any Abrahamic religion and she found my interest in fantasy an escapist attempt

But now something very interesting is happening. As a big supporter of my amateur art journey, she +

There are pedophiles in this world

But queer people you desperately want to associate with such crimes just want kids to know being different is OK, you mustn’t be ashamed / shame other kids for being different, so that their little hearts don’t suffer like ours did 1/4 Be OK with it or not, history and science make it clear that queerness won’t cease to exist.

Inflicting pain onto others for who they are from an early age leads to severe mental (and physical) consequences that are so difficult to heal from - it’s so humane and cruel 2/4

Charlie Vickers clean shaven face from the filming wrap-up party (confirming @FellowshipFans scoops) makes me think of a few things (apart from how funny and cute he looks)

A mini thread. 1/5 1) He wore wigs in S1. The photos from the party confirm that he's grown his natural hair long since then for Season 2 which has a darker shade.

It kind of changes his visage and aura and I like it's gonna make him look 'less Halbrand' in line with the character's evolution. 2/5

The hair strands of Galadriel reminiscing both silver Telperion & golden Laurelin has other meaning beyond the Eldar belief that her hair contains light of the Trees, her heritage, or her relationship with her uncle and/or Gimli.

It’s also a take on gender, by Tolkien: A thread Telperion is considered male and Laurelin female; They follow a schedule of shining brightest after one another, with an overlapping moment of immense beauty.

Galadriel represents this overlap, as does her hair and personality and Tolkien’s gift for her is ‘not confirming’ +

Within its own world, TROP’s original approach to Noldor politics bring forth interesting possibilities and implications we can brainstorm on.

Galadriel is the Commander of the Northern Armies. This implies that Noldor princesses can take up official state roles in Lindon. One could assume that it entitles princesses to the throne, as well. Now, since Amazon decided that Gil-Galad is of the Golden House, it places him below Galadriel in succession line to the throne.

In this scenario, Galadriel should’ve been the High-Queen

Of Galadriel, Mirrors, Water and #TheRingsOfPower : A thread

One of the things TROP has done well and I think will continue to build on is exploring why water is an important element and a theme for Galadriel's story from both Tolkienian and purely creative angles 1/20 Let's start with Tolkien & move on to TROP. In Silm, we meet Galadriel who rebels against Valar and probably fights for the first time in defence of her kin, Teleri elves, who are also known as Sea-elves. The Teleri side of Galadriel is a defining characteristic of her 2/20

Hello - ahead of this week's TROP episode 'The Eye', I want to organise and 'bind' all Halbrand = Sauron arguments I had in one thread.

I won't use screenshots but I'll refer to the show moments as well as the lore, not necessarily implying that they are in line. 0/10 1) The binding. Galadriel says to Halbrand "bind yourself to me" on the raft: A lightning of Manwë strikes. Halbrand wants to "bind" himself to Galadriel. A volcano of Morgoth erupts.

This story's about a power to rule them all & "in the darkness bind them" - yet it won't.

I've been thinking about Galadriel in TROP and I realised that her story here is gonna be about actively choosing to un-Sauronify herself: A thread

I'll explain this through the assumption that Halbrand is Sauron because then the writing of the show makes sense to me. 1/7 That's because they make each other feel like they can move on from the past & achieve a better future. The connection they feel is an invitation for both of them to achieve something great. 2/7

The conflict within the Tolkien fandom about character interpretations will be even more intense in September

While debating with others, one thing we need to bear in mind is that no art form is free of the consumer’s subconscious appetite: a thread about the ‘lacy divinity' The reason we get obsessed with things; become followers, fans, simps or any kind of admirers is strongly tied to how the artistic product feeds both the conscious and subconscious fantasies and desires we have

I’m really tired of explaining again and again that we don’t know what Amazon did with Galadriel…

Surely she won’t be swinging her sword around for 5 seasons since the show runners said they wanna show how these characters change and grow into who they are in the 3rd age And she might swing her sword around for 5 seasons while becoming less of a headstrong rebel and more of a wise leader. She was a different woman in her youth. Tolkien emphasises that several times in his notes.

Why is it so hard to wait and see? Why can’t we just chill…

When I look at this poster and the three characters in it I can't help but sadly think...

If Finrod was alive, he would presumably be the High-King of Noldor in early SA instead of Gil-Galad. Yet he stands there as a memory carved out on stone. It seems that, and also acknowledged by Christopher, Tolkien's latest inclination was that Gil-Galad was Galadriel's great-nephew & nor Finrod neither Fingon had children.

What details support the Halbrand = Sauron theory?

Here's some (my main theory is in the last tweet): Galadriel, Sauron's chief adversary in the ME and the main character of the show, runs into Halbrand in early episodes and spends the season by his side. 1/5 Image After Halbrand giving Galadriel an 'ear-check' and realising whom she might be, he ends up in Númenor with her.

In many promotional material, we see Galadriel telling someone "fight with me" in a commanding/inviting manner. This person is most probably Halbrand. Why? 2/5

Disclaimer: This is NOT A SERIOUS thread/speculation/theory. I'm just gonna have some fun.

Hmm in the Fandom interview with TROP characters, Cynthia Addai-Robinson is wearing a cream look very similar to Míriel's dress 1/5 ImageImage What's that? Oh, it's Charlie Vickers wearing a cardigan with fish scale-like pattern similar to Halbrand's armour... Hmm. 2/5 ImageImage

So-called fans claim "women outwitting men in TROP" is stupid & even in stories like GoT where it naturally exists "things always go bad when women hold power" + "this isn't Tolkien's vision for his world."

Let's take a look at some of Tolkien's women to get his vision: a thread Galadriel: Advised Celebrimbor not to befriend Annatar and advised the White Council to let Gandalf lead them.

Her views were disregarded. The world descended into terror twice because of that. Her advice to hide the Three would change the course of the events that followed.

My theory about the Stranger is that he's a Blue Wizard -with the other one arriving later. In most recent writings Tolkien said that the duo countered Sauron's influence over the East in the Second Age. "Influence" = cult members we've seen in the trailer? 1/7 Analyses derived that Harfoots traveled in the East, where Alatar would dwell. We know that we're getting a Harad storyline (rather south, but still) where Men wish to make up for their past. These might be the communities the Blue Wizards will help rebelling against Sauron. 2/7

From the very beginning, I feel the vibe that Durin IV is the 'contemporary' politician at odds with his father and is eager to work with Celeborn in making of something brand new, utilising Mithril. Disa in a way is the mastermind behind him who's smart, loving but strategic. We may watch Disa & Durin's endeavours changing the political dynamics of Khazad-dûm, creating ties with Eregion to meet their raw-material needs (thereby increased mining activity leading to Durin's Bane) and Gil-Galad watching all of this cautiously through the eyes of Elrond

So, some so-called 4chan "leaks" led people to criticise how much of a role Galadriel will play in the decision to make 3 separate Elven rings and not so surprisingly some men are actually really mad about this.

Taking a deep breath first... Credibility issues aside, let me start with an important fact: Just like Sauron (Mairon), Saruman (Curunír) and Fëanor; Galadriel was trained by Aulë himself, the god of crafting substances, in Valinor. She was educated by the same master as Annatar who guided making of the rings
