Been listening to old 80s Chicago house records all weekend and it’s nuts how drenched in reverb all these songs are Conventional wisdom says don’t put reverb on a bass synth but sometimes wisdom is not so wise

Chongqing: reversal of zero Covid policy means that those working in related industries are now unemployed. Riots at a factory producing COVID tests over mass layoffs. twitter.com/i/web/status/1… hard to think of more poetic way for zero covid to end than proles using covid tests as weapons against riot cops

I think people may be misreading this a tad. The point isn’t that people aren’t buying Alexas - they bought a shitload! It’s that Amazon manufactures them as a loss leader but can’t find ways to turn them into long term revenue streams, even if it spies on you. It’s important to understand that most of Amazon‘s products and services have historically been unprofitable, and the company didn’t make consistent profits at all until AWS allowed it to truly balloon in the late 2010s. And even then its margins have always been razor thin.

Americans truly are psychotic when it comes to guns, huh. Not psychotic in a violently crazy way (though it often comes to that), but a more subtle refusal to accept anything beyond confirmation bias. Only country that comes close on the issue is…Brazil?

Chinese influencers pretending to be in Los Angeles by taking pictures at the Shanghai Costco This must be exactly how Japanese people feel when they see Americans flip out over their extremely normal suburban street scenes. One person’s banality is another’s Instagram shot

Washington is unrolling the restaurant vaccine mandate today. It’s a shitshow. Not only is it taking a public health role and delegating to the lowest paid service workers, there’s literally no enforcement mechanism. You can just show them a random picture on your phone, no prob! You’d think some egghead would be able to whip up a QR code app connected to a health department database, but that seems too difficult compared to having cashiers have to deal with furious antivaxers trolling them

Fermented soy beans baby I love zhajiang but hate the smell. Not because it’s bad per se but because it is the EXACT smell as when I worked at the fertilizer factory

Feels good to know that in our high tech future we are still ruled by people as breathtakingly stupid as medieval lords of yore Actually most medieval lords were probably more well read than Zucc technically

Has Mayor Pete presented any kind of solution to the supply chain problems yet? This is the first time in years Americans have cared about the nation’s logistics system and he’s not even trying, what a masterful grift Is he proposing the establishment of a committee to decide which consulting firm to hire to make a PowerPoint

There seems to be consensus outside of China that their success with handling Covid was due to how orderly and accepted their lockdowns were. That’s not the case. There’s a new outbreak in guangdong and attempts to lockdown parts of foshan faced a massive protest last night.

the wave of revolt we are seeing right now is the latest ripple of china's declining growth numbers, which was the main thing that shielded poorer, commodity exporting countries from the worst of the 2008 crash. *puffs bubble pipe*

There's an aspect of the Xinjiang nightmare that hasn't been explored a lot, and that's the party is using this to finally proletarianize the Uighur population. Uighurs historically have been pastoralists, small scale farmers, or small restaurateurs in the cities. When they move out to eastern cities they have a bad reputation for being petty criminals and populating the urban underworlds (where this comes from I don't really know)
