THREAD: As a reporter I get a lot of tips I have to fact check. One tip, that immigrants at Deportation Depot didn't have jackets on some of the COLDEST days of the year, was one I had to look into, as I didn't just get it from one source. I was told by multiple people.
I was told that detainees were wearing multiple sweatshirts, sometimes even towels, to stay warm. I was told that the temp in there is freezing, and people don't want to go outside for rec because they don't have enough layers to stay warm.

Taylor Swift's new song "Florida!!!" depicts the state like an old frontier town -- disorderly and dark, with murder, binge drinking and drugs -- the opposite of Gov. Ron DeSantis' tough "Law and Order" stance on crime.
In this essay I will...
Seriously, let's look at the lyrics
Taylor: "And my friends all smell like weed or little babies
And this city reeks of driving myself crazy"
DeSantis on the marijuana amendment: ""This state will start to smell like marijuana ... it will reduce the quality of life," he said.

THREAD: I started reporting on this story more than a month ago, maybe a week after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed SB 1718 on May 10.
I heard immigrant workers were leaving the state out of fear of the new law, so @alicia_c_devine and I drove around the Florida Panhandle to ask around
First stop, restaurants and tiendas with money order signs in the windows, where we heard kitchen staff, neighbors and families with young children had already left and moved to other states like North Carolina and Texas.
