Now the more exciting low-tech discovery. Making a picture in picture type "talking head" video where most of the screen is me going through slides, or annotating a PDF score, but with video of me over in the corner. using only quicktime. end product looks like this:

to recreate a powerpoint type lecture, but as a video of slides with voiceover, you can just open QuickTIme and choose File --> New Screen Recording.
Then there are options to "click and drag" to record only part of the screen, or just record and capture full screen. Two important options in the pull down menu beside the record button: do you want mouse clicks visible or hidden (I use it kind of like a pointer). and same pull down menu lets you turn on the mic options. (default screen recording is no sound).

Well I started prepping in advance of the first "online only" week at UBC next week. In case it's useful to anyone else, here's what I plan to do, and some refections so far (incase anyone has tips, or incase others find my reflection at all useful). Lectures are pre-recorded, not live. I'm just using quicktime, which allows me to do video segments of me speaking into the camera, but then also to record my screen, when I switch to powerpoint slides with voiceover, or screen capture for annotating PDF scores.
