After the tragic incident in Portobello yesterday I can't help but be angry about another needless death on our streets.

At the time reports were coming in my wife & kids were a little overdue, cycling home from school - but on the other side of town. My anxiety still rose

1/8 It's a journey I've done hundreds of times but is relatively new to my wife. We'd reconnoitred a route trying to avoid the worse bits and planned approaches for those you couldn't including getting off and pushing...

But still I worried until they came through the door.

Let's summarise the debate on the Gogarstone Junction changes

GS is the N-S road on right of pic, heading to a T-Junction on the E-W A8 Glasgow Road dual carriageway by Edinburgh Airport

The A8 has historically had a 70mph limit but this has recently been reduced to 40mph

1/n The A8 is also home to a cycle path its the South side (QuietRoute 9) linking Western Edinburgh/RBS Gogarburn with the Airport and Kirkliston/Broxburn.

The Gogarstone Junction has been a known hotspot for crossing safely for people 🚶‍♀️or🚴‍♀️

2/n
