Protesters calling for a ceasefire in Gaza have occupied Hadley Hall on the NMSU campus in Las Cruces. @LC4Palestine is live-streaming from their Instagram page. I count about two dozen protesters and four police officers watching them. The group posted a list of demands too.

Police just told protesters they’ll be arrested at 6:05 p.m. if they don’t voluntarily leave Hadley Hall before then. Protesters interrupted this officer’s plea to leave with chanting. Image

🧵 I’ve seen many Democrats saying everyone is so much better off than they were four years ago. That assertion comes from a helluva position of privilege. And then they’re attacking people who dare to say that, no, their lives aren’t better; they’re worse. I’m sick of it. /1 The truth is that Biden broke his promises related to the pandemic. And then he and his team engaged in a vast disinformation campaign to make it seem like covid had gone away when it had not. People got sick, became disabled, or died because of Biden’s lies. /2

(Thread) My kiddo is now in middle school, and she’s leading an elective class in building DIY air purifiers for the entire school. /1 She presented to the class last week about the importance of indoor air filtration and how to build the filters. We donated the supplies for nine #corsirosenthalboxes. We dropped them off Tuesday and the class started construction. /2

(Thread) Sorry folks. I wasn’t in a space to say anything useful about the state cutting back on COVID reporting last night. My #longcovid brain fog is worst in the evening when I’m physically tired. /1 Last night, I couldn’t even feel my sorrow, abandonment and grief through the surface emotion of anger, let alone process what I was thinking. I can share now. /2

“… white mortality during COVID was still substantially lower than Black mortality in the pre-pandemic years. In that light, the normalizing of COVID deaths is unsurprising.“

Racism sucks. Ableism + racism sucks more. /1 “When deaths happen to people who are already not valued in a million other ways, it’s easier to not value their lives in this additional way,” Wrigley-Field told me. /2

Look folks. New Mexico’s racial and colonizing history is more complex than most of America. I don’t yet know who shot a man during the planned toppling of a statue of Oñate in ABQ tonight. But I can give some context to the environment in which the shooting happened. /1 Juan de Oñate was a colonizer. And an oppressive one. As I wrote in 2015, “His army slaughtered hundreds of people at Acoma Pueblo in 1599 after a skirmish left about a dozen Spaniards dead, including his nephew.” /2
