“Locals” have always been complicit in the massive, increasing sale of Hawaiian land to gentrifiers. Non-Hawaiians touting the image of Hawaiʻi for personal gain isn’t new. Neither is the chorus of “locals” (including many Kānaka) trying to shame people for militant objections
We can highlight state structures and wrongdoings of elected reps as people to put the blame on, but there’s also no settler colonialism displacing us without settlers or oversize tourist industry without tourists. Consumption (and thus individual decision) is part of the problem
