Football can be simple.

The last 10-15 years has seen 99% of analysis speak about team tactics, shape etc.

And whilst all of that is of course vital, a lot of basic player analysis gets missed.

Morgan Rogers is a player who can get the ball centrally, run right through the middle, piercing open an opposition block, dragging players out the way, opening space for himself and others.

Talk tactics all you want, find players who can break game models and have cheat codes. Players who can run with the ball through the middle of the pitch is a cheat code. Duran. A player who needs minimal space to finish expertly and ruthlessly. Just make the sure ball gets to him enough times in a reasonable enough zone to finish on goal. Not exactly an Einstein tactic in terms of it requiring page after page of discourse, but genius and effective in its simplicity

A far better player than most of the names I’ve seen Spurs linked with.

This is a damn good signing Okay so people asking what he’s like. I don’t watch much premier league football believe it or not. Too busy watching countless other games for work haha. But if a player or team catches my eye, I take interest. And I remember discussing Odobert with @SebC__ around Christmas last season

🧵

So many players struggle to defend 1 v 1s nowadays. I genuinely believe it’s because they’re not taught the basics from a young age.

Ben White here. All wrong. He’s flat footed, and on his heels. Completely square to Mitoma, not taking charge. Distancing is fine Image The distance between himself and Mitoma has actually increased. That cant happen. In jockeying, the gap has to decrease until point of engagement, or player releases. His legs are completely out of control, hasn’t shown Mitoma one way or the other, Mitoma has both exits available Image

Thread…Spurs, 3-5-2, sign a top striker…Son LWB… Spurs have been best under Conte when 3-5-2 as opposed to 3-4-3. But I don’t think Son is a striker in a 2. Also, Spurs will sign a striker. If it’s a Vlahovic, De Ketelaere etc, then they will have to find a balance to fit all 3 in. Here’s why Sonny at LWB under Conte works

Obviously it didn’t end with the success Jose and the club were hoping for. For some people, he could never win. But I do think there are some misconceptions about Jose’s tactics in his time at Spurs. Found a bit of time so will talk about it in a thread below Jose did coach attack. The attack wasnt the issue. He wasnt defensive. Theres an argument to say he wasn’t defensive enough...let me start with the attack. There’s not one way to coach anything in football. Modern ideas have you believe everything must be strict patterns/circuits

It’s the double disguise on the body movement before he shifted the ball to finish that I love most here. Like a puppet master, almost pausing in real time to make the defender off balance giving him the yard to shift the ball into. The greatest I’ve ever seen If Messi touches the ball at that moment, it allows the defender to continue with his decision and maybe toe the ball. Messi being in complete control of the situation, using the double feint delays the defender, throws him off, and gives Messi the advantage he might not have had

So in the summer I did a Spurs player review...fair to say things may need another review 😬 #thfc HUGO LLORIS: underrated captain. Clearly has the respect of his peers and mentality to compete for the big trophies. His athleticism and reflexes make him an incredible shot stopper. But too prone to error and loops his kicks which makes it very hard to be direct & attack quickly

I don’t want to complain. It’s a fantastic window. However, Spurs not singing anyone in the previous two windows has bit them in the ass. Lose lose in the sense, yes it would have been amazing if Dybala and Atal joined, and Aurier, Eriksen who doesn’t want to be here... ...etc had left however, that’s far too much change to a side that’s biggest advantage is the continuity and settled structure already in place. And adding three/four attacking players to a starting lineup is so difficult to get in tune with each other

So....here is why Lo Celso is a HUGE singing for Spurs. Spurs are amazing at exploiting weaknesses of teams under Pochettino. However, they can/are incredibly pedestrian when looking to break down deep blocks who don’t budge. They play chess. Pass, stop, pass, stop etc etc However, when Winks plays, this improves markedly as he’s so quick to pass and move at angles. This retains pressure, keeps ball moving at pace, pulls defences apart, however he’s not the final pass player

So Ryan Sessegnon looks on his way to Spurs...here’s my thoughts on what he offers and where he would be best served #thfc #ffc And I’d like @NathanAClark thoughts on the thread I’m about to do as I know he’s keen on Sessegnon being a left back for the future
