I have a very very bad feeling about what is going on within the US government at every level right now. It appears to be rapidly crumbling from the inside, and there furthermore appears to be no one to pick up the pieces 🧵 2/ Look at how many incumbents are running unopposed in the local and state elections… here in Ventura County, two of our supervisors, one state assembly person, one state senator - all running unopposed. Many municipal seats appear to be heading to vacancy…

As COVID begins to exponentially rise locally again, I feel it’s important to highlight just 4 things 🧵 1/ Your personal risk of long term cognitive decline, and ability to work, increases with each infection. There is also a 1/25 chance you’ll drop dead within a month of your infection (including from heart-related acute causes)

Ventura County/Camarillo Wildfire Forum… they’re having some technical confusions over the Zoom and I guess they don’t even know to mute “This is really annoying”

Does she know she’s not muted?

700,000 people are expected to lose SNAP under the new budget and guidance - White House briefing, they don’t have an explanation or excuse

They also have no idea how many votes they have for the bill…

(Per White House Press Briefing) They’re operating on an assumption or possibility that people phasing in will negate the 700,000 about to be kicked off.

Crazy shit

There’s a tendency for people to think that the only reason anyone would have a criticism of public policy over X, Y, .Z, or an opinion about it, is if they’re personally invested.

I think that’s a larger reflection of our culture of narcissism 🧵 Our empathy deficit has been documented

My dad just came upstairs, naturally came over to gripe about politics. He votes Dem Party up and down, has for decades.

No exaggeration: "I think something's wrong with the people in the Democratic Party right now. They don't seem to have a grasp on what's going on."

Telling If my dad is being radicalized to the left of the Party.

My dad.

As centrist Dem as they come...

Well my own observations are not wrong

The smartest strategy the Democratic Party could employ at this time is to campaign for Trump in the primary, as well as encouraging voters to register R and vote for him in their state’s primary. Sorry, but Trump being the candidate is the only way Biden has a shot (by the data) Joe Biden doesn’t even plan on campaigning much himself, a prospect that is frankly insane in my view (Obama, as one example, campaigned heartily for his re election).

Y’all have a lot of work to do 😬 ImageImage

Final tally of our student loan poll:

11% of people will immediately resume paying
26% will be waiting on the court cases to resolve
63% are simply not paying

1/4 81% of people say they no longer have the money in their budget they had pre-pandemic to afford student loan payments, likely due to inflation, cost of living, other changes since COVID hit

Folks I have a serious hair situation here. If you’re local, I need advice

🧵 2> I tweeted earlier about Madison Reed sending me the wrong color labeled as Pescara Black. I’ve talked to several other people through the course of the day who’ve had a bad experience and between this and my hair being more frizzy…

How Cigna Saves Millions by Having Its Doctors Reject Claims Without Reading Them — ProPublica

🧵 propublica.org/article/cigna-… When my daughter was much younger, there was a period of time when I just paid for her and I to have private insurance. Hers was through Anthem Blue Cross, mine Blue Shield (ABC had outright denied me because I had back surgery when I was 13).
