Watergate taught both Republicans and Democrats terrible lessons. It taught Republican presidents extreme caution: they had to avoid the slightest hint of impropriety, because the Democrat/Progmedia Cabal would exploit it ruthlessly to diminish the president’s power. Democrats learned that, with the assistance of their Progmedia allies, they could drive down a Republican president’s poll numbers so low that his own party would give up on him. They have used this strategy with every GOP president since Nixon and it has worked fairly well.
