I've seen a few comments lately about the "caol le caol, leathan le leathan" rule for spelling. (Slender w/ slender, broad w/ broad). Some people have trouble remembering which vowels are slender, and when the rule applies. In English, most people say the vowels in alphabetical order; AEIOU.
But it's worth breaking it up into slender (IE) and broad (AOU) to get your head around Irish spelling.
I used to just think of Irish websites being .ie to help me remember.

Early on in the lockdown, a whatsapp group turned into an board game night over Hangouts, and it's the best craic. Still going strong thanks to one of the lads having an apparently endless collection of games, so I made this dice tower for him.

New Santoku. Alder and smoked oak handle.
Slightly disappointed the blade isn't a proper chisel grind. That wasn't clear when I bought it.
The handle was supposed to be a more even octagon but I fucked up, so pivoted hard to this very elongated shape I've seen occasionally. a santoku kitchen knife wit...a santoku kitchen knife wit...a santoku kitchen knife wit...a santoku kitchen knife wit... Pretty happy with the clean lines, but the new thin shape did reveal a small void in the alder that would've been hidden if I'd got the handle right first time. It at least ended up more ergonomic than this Me holding a knife with an ...

I wasn't good at Irish in school and at one point I genuinely believed, and don't bother fucking @'ing me on this, that you couldn't really learn it unless you grew up in a home where it was the dominant language. So I felt like I'd just missed out.. ..a bit like wishing I was taller or better-looking or whatever. I just got dealt the non-Irish speaking hand🤷‍♂️ To keep this from becoming a THREAD, I'll just say I eventually copped on. But the point is, I always liked the idea of being able to speak it.

I think there's a -tiny- bit of sense to it. Greek myths tend to be visually quite grounded. A bull-headed man. A lot of boats. A big fight.
Irish myths, eg, are so much more fluid that putting them on screen would be either impossible or just look so stupid that it undercuts it. The description of Cúchullainns ríastrad would look unintentionally hilarious if you put it on screen, but it's great storytelling. The strength is in the words. Turning into pictures takes all the power out of it (imho)

I did it 🙂 a small lino print of Peig ... Storm Ophelia blew down a cherry tree so when the council came to chop it up, I took it. Turned out it had been rotting from the inside for a while, but there's a few decent bits. Steps: Plane one face, chop off the trousers, mark out 4 pieces. ImageImageImageImage

neighbour's got a saxophone No sarcasm, I genuinely love the sound of people learning musical instruments. Every honk, screech and bum note. Learning a musical instrument is a great thing to do and there's no way to get mediocre without going through a long phase of being absolutely melojin.
