If you're a comics creator who wants to put together a pitch for an editor or agent, here are the basics of what to include: WORKING TITLE - Have a title ready for your story that will hopefully pique the interest of the reader. A good title can be hard to come with but you definitely want to have something in place (it can still change down the line!)

As a friendly reminder, I’m happy to try to help folks out by sharing thoughts and insight on the comics industry, but it’s not an open invite to send me your pitches and portfolios. Unless explicitly stated, assume the default is that you should ask first before doing so. Totally get the excitement and wanting to have eyes on your work, but knowing etiquette for reaching out to editors is very important.

As we make our way back to cons, here's a bit of networking advice...a 🧵 When networking with peers, many make the mistake of trying to connect with the biggest name in the room, so to speak. They think becoming friendly with them will be their golden ticket.

Exactly 10 years ago today, this little bean showed up on my doorstep in the middle of nowhere. She was friendly and loving but she was also hurt and starving. I let her into a room and set some food done for her which she quickly started to gobble up. After she was done, she looked at me, ran up to where I was sitting, curled up in my lap and started doing air paws. I took a photo, it’s the one you in the first tweet.

✨What to include in an art portfolio (if you want to make comics professionally)✨ from the perspective of a freelance editor. Your portfolio NEEDS to include sequential pages (aka comic book pages). If you want to do interior art for comics, you need to have examples of what you can do.

Further to all of this, regarding creative teams...

If you're pitching to the book market, you can pitch solo as a writer. If an editor/pub likes it, they'll help put together the team.

If you're pitching to the comic market, you'll need pretty much everyone hired prior. In the comic market, you can occasionally (rarely) get away with pitching just as a writer...but it's rare. Your pitch has to really knock an editor's socks off.

This is a really, really interesting move and shows that DC is paying attention to the audience changes and are adapting with the times. You can't ignore the fact that books like Lore Olympus has 5 million+ subscribers...unheard of numbers in mainstream comics.
