Hi! Would you like one concrete thing to do today to support trans lives?

It's a long-con, but I promise it pays out.

It goes like this:

✔ Give one neighbor your signal / whatsapp / phone number.

Let me tell you why. Ok, what is the Christian-Right anti-trans coalition doing?

They're spreading mis- and disinformation in order to isolate us and reduce our access to health care we need to be ourselves. Everyone asks me how we combat all this disinfo.

Through conversation!

Someone Very Online said that trans people are losing the battle against TERFs.

FIRST OF FUCKING ALL we're not just battling the TERFs. That's a little disingenuous. We're battling the Christian Right and their billionaires like the Wilkes Brothers and the DeVos family. Putting the battle as TERFs v Trans when the TERFs are backed by billionaires is just laughable.

Billions of dollars.

Tens of millions of Christian conservatives.

Did you know there are more right-wing Evangelicals than trans people of any religiosity??

My take:

- Bailey didn't find ANYTHING at the Wash U clinic, despite Jamie Reed's affidavit, because there was nothing to find;

- Bills aren't moving in the state legislature;

- Bailey wants his seat again in 2025; apnews.com/article/politi…

- Boom. More anti-trans bullshit. So goddamn predictable. Anti-trans bullshit is currency on the Right.

The more you have of it, the more certain folks hold you in high esteem, and the more easily you're able to enter important spaces on the Right.

Something shifted this week.

Did we at LGBT-serving orgs reach our max capacity with multiple hearings and votes a day? Maybe this is all we can handle. Everyone I know is working themselves sick.

And we're still losing the legislative fight. My job is partly to look back - to perform autopsies on past anti-lgbt advocacy and determine their relative success or failure.

So I'm looking back on the past 10 years and the diffusion of the center of the lgbt movement since marriage equality.

I love my name because I am a very specific type of older millennial nonbinary queer whose parents were hippies.

It is *impossible* to predict whether we were given our names or picked our own. I met a Lark last year. Impossible to predict if Lark was a given name. And also I forgot, so if I meet them again, we get to re-play the game!

Alright folks! Huddle up! It's been a horrible year for trans and queer folks and it's . . . January.

But don't worry. The antis are busy but so are we.

First up, mine and @amylittlefield's can't-miss piece in @thenation today.

thenation.com/article/societ… The Right benefits from us thinking that our struggles are separate. Not only are the fights for abortion access and justice for transgender and nonbinary people related, they're the *same* war: the Christian-right war on bodily autonomy

The average New York Times reader might be excused for thinking that there is a valid debate among the *informed* about supporting trans lives.

There is not.

At this point, the paper is printing outright right-wing propaganda to manufacture outrage.
nytimes.com/2023/01/22/us/… I am livid.

I am watching *real time* how the NYTimes is changing how people look at me and my work.

People with whom I could have civil conversations about transness are now emboldened to question what I know is a preponderance of evidence-based science and medicine.

Just a note that pushing back against anti-trans detransitioned people is a moral imperative. Pushing back against anti-trans trans people is a moral imperative.

This article is politically-ignorant at best, and outright dangerous at worst, as the Atlantic *continues* to peddle the ideas that 1) trans people are ignoring detransitioners and 2) our not-real-ignoring is somehow to our peril.
theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/… "Even if the 2 percent figure holds, the absolute number of detransitioners is likely to increase dramatically as more trans and nonbinary people elect medical and surgical treatments."

IS IT???????

IS. IT????????

Numerically sure, but proportionately???????

Hi!

It looks like notorious anti-trans org 4thWaveNow is recruiting doctors who "treat/have treated gender-dysphoric children/teens who have desisted or detransitioned" with the offer to NAME YOUR $$ NUMBER for the data.

😑😑😑😑😑

Soooo . . . Question for US clinicians (psych or medical) who treat/have Soooooo, first off, is this your sign to ditch the anti-trans club?

C'mon. I know you've been thinking about it. They really ARE working with the Alliance Defending Freedom. They really ARE willing to sacrifice abortion to hurt trans people. I know you know it.

This!!!

"Women don't dress like they used to."

Oh, you mean with one dress and one work apron, with a wool shawl for when it's cold?? Chilblains on their feet from the cold and wet?

Those were RICH people in gowns, my dude. Same as now. "We don't have poetry like we used to"

We do. The arts weren't supported then--it was either rich male dilettantes who were famous for it, or people discovered after death.

But everyone *wrote* poetry "then" same as everyone writes poetry now. And pays $45 to submit it for pub.

Transphobia breaks up empires.

Pass it on. This is such a wild move that illustrates how dangerous transphobia is to actual policy-making.

It is NONSENSICAL to evoke a constitutional crisis over a random Scottish public health policy.

It might cause irreparable damage to English public health, trust, and safety.

I'm watching @Heritage Foundation's presentation with anti-trans detransitioner Chloe Cole.

I haven't live-tweeted in a while, so let's see how this goes. I had no idea it would just be Richards and Cole on the stage alone! screencap of the heritage foundation's live events page My first impression, and maybe an unfair one, is that Cole sounds WAY different than she did at Matt Walsh's "Rally to End Child Mutilation." She was super bombastic there. Her social media is also VERY bombastic and challenging.

Here, she's very quiet and hesitant.

No.

No.

This might get me locked or banned, but this was a lynching. I don't know the man's race yet, but killing a young Black boy for something you *thought* he did? That's a lynching.

God, this little one. This perfect one. God. I know NE DC. I lived there in 2010,2011.

It's a neighborhood. Neighborhoods. It's residential. There are families everywhere.

It's Black, with a steadily growing front of white gentrification plunging its way north and east to the river. I was on that front.

I wanna expand on my thread from yesterday.

I do not think that the Respect for Marriage Act overturns, for example, Piggie Park.

There is no provision that provides a BROAD exemption to civil rights law, but the exemption in the bill is a terrifying step in that direction. Here's my thread for yesterday, for reference:

THREAD: I join some of my comrades in expressing my alarm at the Respect for Marriage Act.

It is the consummate congressional compromise: the Christian-Right gains the power to undermine marriage equality without violating federal law, and progressives gain . . . It's tricky to even talk about the bill because the compromise clauses are in a pdf of the draft bill that's on Senator Baldwin's server. Congress.gov doesn't even have the language that passed cloture this afternoon.

So bear with me.

STORY TIME

Last night I was witness to scouting 🤮 in person and was able to step in. This was in a CROWDED theater in public with PLENTY of people around.

All I could think was, I want someone to be there for my daughter when this happens to her. So I stepped in. A bunch of us went to a local community theater opening night last night to support a friend.

I would say the majority of folks there on opening night were friends / family of the cast and crew.
