Saying Adam Hughes’ very reasonable, comparatively affordable commission prices “aren’t ethical” sure is A Take. Most of us suffer art-related wrist/back pain and don’t have retirement plans or pensions. Our worlds actually will melt down if we don’t raise our prices over time. Image This exchange was in response to this dude’s weird fixation with setting a cap re: commission pricing on the Artist Platform (?) he’s building. His Super Saiyan 9999 level concern trolling is of course, easily fixed by raising the floor on pricing instead of lowering the ceiling.

There are so few viable portfolio and art-sharing platform options for artists, especially in light of DA and Artstation refusing to ban or explicitly label AI art during this early period of total deregulation—I’m thankful Cara exists and is being built with us in mind 🙏 Some people will try to disingenuously frame personal attacks and a pattern of concern trolling as righteous warnings on here but I’ve known and followed Jingna for nearly 2 decades and seen her many contributions to the online art community firsthand. I trust Cara as a platform.

If you think an artist you’re commissioning or buying art from is undercharging, just pay them more 💗 I used to tell artists to charge more but I’ve found it’s actually just better to simply buy from them and send more money than they request, no explanation even required tbh

Obviously while I understand how visual artists are specifically hurt by AI, I really think the copyright/ownership argument misses the larger issue: data privacy. Sharing images online, whether they’re selfies or drawings, shouldn’t give companies a free pass to commodify them. Having a digital painting that you poured countless hours + immeasurable effort into stolen without your knowledge and dumped into a dataset feels worse than finding out a random selfie or food pic ended up in there, but the core issue remains consistent: it’s the lack of consent

I need to know who decided Kiry--I mean Ryoma should have no ass. This is like, less than no ass; it's negative ass and it's making me sad for him 😭 I love RGG but this is the perfect argument for why we need less straight men in game dev lol I simply do not believe he could do all those jump attacks with that ass

The thing ppl need to understand is that this cottage industry full of grifters offering paid courses on Get Rich Quick schemes like print-on-demand merch + dropshipping, crypto/nfts, etc. isn’t new—these kinds of AI art vids are simply the next iteration of that same MLM culture They frame the thing they’re selling as a Life Hack or a Cheat Code that other people simply don’t have the wherewithal to know about or savvy to take advantage of, but what they actually prey on + profit off of is their customers’ desperation, naivety, laziness, and selfishness.

Yes, many of which I draw in an official, professional capacity because it’s literally my job 🤑 The argument that fanart is derivative in the same way that AI is fundamentally reveals a complete lack of understanding of how much fan creations actually strengthen, expand, and directly benefit IP holders. Fan Artists create original interpretations of existing characters—

Biden and the DNC just want a return to normalcy, to politeness, to respectability—but 64% of us remember where normalcy got us: multiple recessions, bailouts, stagnated wages, predatory college loans, loss of worker rights, expensive healthcare, mass shootings, a housing crisis; climate change, mass consolidation of tech, airline, financial, utility corporations—the only redistribution of wealth I've ever seen in this country has been the kind the trickles up, not down. 3 generations of Americans worse off than their parents bc politicians normalized it.

The thing that pisses me off the most about Joe Biden is that he’s been in government for nearly half a century—36 years in the Senate, 8 as VP, guaranteed 4 as President—and instead of using every power at his disposal to meet the needs of the people, he’s fixated on reelection. He doesn’t even *have* a bully pulpit. The can has been kicked to the absolute end of the road and he’s still trying to compromise and maintain decorum as if the GOP hasn’t cheated their way to a 6-3 supreme court and isn’t now gleefully using it to roll us all back to the 1850s.

I’d always been confused as to how some SW fans could misunderstand the franchise they claim to love so much, but reading the work of historian Heather Cox Richardson really opened my eyes to the fact that the original movie served as a kind of Rorschach test for viewers in 1977— Many of the (majority) white male American fans identified with Luke, who had rare, god-given abilities that made him special, but was simply unable to achieve his true potential because of circumstances caused by a tyrannical government—after all, SW is essentially a Western;

Some of this is just how people are but a lot of it is twitter's poor scaling—making every conversation public has transformed ppl into a 50/50 mix of 'insecure enough to think everything is a subtweet about them' and 'overconfident enough to interject w/ uninformed opinions' 🥲 Most online communities used to each have their own dedicated room within a big house; there was a door you could open to see what was going on inside, and that door usually had a basic set of rules to follow if you wanted to participate. Each room got to have its own culture--

Lol I always knew this hellsite had the capacity to become even worse somehow, but this truly is beyond my expectations 🥲 Nah, I'll still be on twitter (unless he bans me for saying he should pay taxes that one time lol) Pretty sure most people will stick around bc there isn't really a good alternative, imo. I *will* be posting WAY more at jenbartel.club though. ❤️‍🔥✨

Hoooooly shit this translation of the alleged FSB whistle-blower letter that leaked last night: While I agree with OP (the translator) that a global famine by summer is unlikely, I do think people are underestimating the impact this will have on food prices, and I DO think MENA countries like Yemen and Lebanon etc will face a lot of hardship ON TOP of current food shortages

Honestly one thing I’d really love if NFT discourse isn’t going to let up is an increase in financial literacy among artists. Part of the reason why grifters always try to take advantage of creative folks is bc they can straight up lie and exaggerate without receiving pushback 🙁 I think in general a lot of artists hesitate when it comes to discussing finances bc they don’t feel like they’re experts and frankly they’d rather be drawing, but sharing rates + business practices with our contemporaries is part of how we can empower each other in the long run.

It feels like joking about the CDC is the only way to process the seemingly absurd fact that yet another institution that is supposed to protect people has instead chosen to protect capital, effectively dissolving whatever small modicum of trust anyone might have still had for it Part of reason why so many people in the USA are vaccine hesitant or skeptical is because they watched the pharmaceutical industry go down essentially the same exact trust-destroying path. The CDC completely bungled this pandemic from the start. I say this as a 3x vaxed person.

This is literally what Thomas Jefferson wanted except he said it should be rewritten every 19 years as the "dead should not rule the living". Most modern democracies have rewritten or changed their constitutions since WWII but here we are, still running OS1.0 on our 56kb modem 🤡 Americans are proud of living in the oldest continuous democracy but the truth is, the walls of this house have gotten weaker over time; they're full of cracks and there's mold behind them that maybe wouldn't be there if it wasn't built on such a weak foundation to begin with.

This is the thing— such a huge portion of ppl who are super into crypto/NFTs preach about decentralization and how Web3 will democratize the internet but they don’t actually want that, they just want to be at the top of a virtually identical system to the one that already exists. They’ll talk about DAOs and DeFi with an almost naive idealism that can only come from the fundamentally out of touch, all while pumping up the value of artificially scarce ‘digital goods’ and hero-worshipping a handful of whales who effectively control the value of every token.

Honestly I wasn’t going to say anything publicly but now that Netflix Bebop has been canceled, I would just like to point out that the main issue was not Ed, or Vicious, but rather that it recreated a piece of media with defined political statements and removed every. last. one. In the original series, we’re introduced to a world that, despite being set in a future where humans have traveled to the far reaches of the galaxy, they still face all of today’s inequities—so much so that it’s normal for bounty hunters to compete with one another for a living.

Anil Dash, the co-creator of NFTs, just wrote the *actual* only article on NFTs you need to read: theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/… I believe there is still time to set standards that are in line with Dash and McCoy's original vision for NFTs—everything is barely in beta right now, developers are moving at light speed and many of them share these ideals. But it can't happen if artists keep using Ethereum.
