"My boyfriend of four years got a job offer in Canada and we were ecstatic about the news.
For six months, I was the one running around helping him process his transcripts, doing midnight prayers, and even lending him #10 million to complete his proof of funds from my business account and a loan I collected for this journey.
We agreed I would join him next year. The night before his flight, we had a quiet dinner at a restaurant he was looking at me with so much emotion.
He held my hands, cleared his throat, and said,
"Babe, you are the best woman a man could ask for. But I want us to be very honest with ourselves so we don't hƻrt each other."
My mind immediately went into defense mode. He went on to say that long-distance relationships rarely work in Canada due to the weather and stress. He suggested that we should do an "open relationship" while he is away.
He said if he finds someone there to help him get his permanent residency faster through marriage, I shouldn't be angry, because it's just "strategic survival," and he will still be sending me money.
