Ahead of the final vote on @gillianmacmsp's #BufferZones bill next week, wrecking amendments have been reintroduced by Jeremy Balfour MSP. We are particularly concerned by amendments 4 and 5. Read on to find out why....🧵 (1/4) A group of people holding up religious placards opposing abortion outside a hospital. Text in pink on blue reads "Buffer zones wrecking amendments reintroduced ahead of final vote." @GillianMacMSP No. 4 creates an exception for “pastoral support or chaplaincy services" within clinics. But hospital chaplains will not be impacted by buffer zones law. Their role is to listen & support, not influence. This amendment could risk formal anti-abortion activism within clinics (2/4)

Health committee MSPs will meet tmrw (22 May) to debate proposed changes to @gillianmacmsp's buffer zones law (supported by @backoffscotland). Jeremy Balfour MSP's amendments are really concerning. If agreed to they would offer huge loopholes for anti-abortion protestors🧵 (1/6) A line of anti-abortion protestors outside a hospital. Text in pink on blue reads "We urge MSPs to step wrecking amendments to buffer zones bill." @GillianMacMSP @backoffscotland Amendment 22 would create an exception for anti-abortion activists providing ‘chaplaincy services at protected premises’. Given the track record of misinformation and manipulative tactics from anti-abortion activists, we would strongly oppose any such move (2/6) Anti-abortion protestors infront of railings in Edinburgh.
