Good point. Indian nonalignment between China-USA should be subject to Chinese nonalignment between India-Pakistan.

China gave Pak nuclear tech. India remained silent.
China gave Pak missile tech. India remained silent.

India can't remain silent in perpetuity. @DrSJaishankar As @BharatKarnad once said, India should do give all that to Vietnam what China gave to Pakistan.

From missiles to nukes.

Only then Chinese will understand it. (Even Vietnam in place of Taiwan works)

It is called "Hunda or Bataiya" system in eastern UP. You give your land to landless or sma farmers & in turn you get half of total harvest produced on that land (or some other arrangements depending on soil). @FrankBullit67 @Mirzaraja14 Since all of this is informal system, a lot of issues arises. But it is an effective way of dealing with small land holdings on which you can't afford to have significant large investment. Now that system is going to be formalized, people could get better deals as well.

Context: Manmohan Singh apart from Jawahar Lal Nehru is only PM of India who has lost Indian territory to external forces.

Incidently, both lost part of Ladakh only. (Keeping J&K aside as general elections in India happened in 1951-52).

@KesariDhwaj To those who are asking about Manmohan Singh losing India territory. Do note that @ShivshankaMenon was our NSA then. cc @FrankBullit67 @KesariDhwaj

On a different note, this "not crossing the sea" in many Hindu texts isn't that old a phenomenon as many would believe.

In @sanjeevsanyal 's land of seven rivers, there is story of Kaundinya, q Brahmin who founded empire in SE Asia. (keeping the myths around it out). 1/2 SS later laments (in the book) how Indian started looking inward and have imposed restrictions on themselves (referring to "not crossing the sea" & "caste system" etc) and from there the Indian dominance at sea begin to decline. 2/2

While I don't mind Punjabi to be added as official language in J&K, but am curious to know have you ever made a case for Hindi/Sanskrit in Punjab?

If not, why Dogri and Kashmiri is not sufficient in J&K UT? In fact, I would want those two languages - Pahari and Gojri, which are left out should be added if they fulfill the language criteria. (that they're not dialects as many say). Drop Urdu and add these two. But @AdityaRajKaul or @ManishTewari hasn't raised this issue. Why?

In theory, it looks like a nice strategy.
But if China really wanted delineation of LAC, India hasn't had 100s of rounds of meeting on border negotiations. Yes, more than 100 meetings. Professor @Chellaney himself wrote about it. It is going since 1960s. Only name changes. Before it actually happens, what India could do is release minutes of all the border settling negotiations & number the meetings. This will bolster anti-china public sentiment and give Indian negotiators necessary ammo at the table & also help boost defense funding. @Chellaney

As far as China is concerned, historically, Xinjiang was very much part of Indian influence and hence should be part of GREATER LADAKH.
There is an excellent article by @subhash_kak which makes a case of this. Read it here:

Lockdown was good decision until the third lockdown & gradual opening (complete) in next 21-30 days.

What ought to have followed then was antibody testing and special arrangements for migrant workers in the place they're employed. Most of these "experts" who are now calling lockdown to be "draconian" were the ones who were demanding it at first place. @Chellaney

And some were even ridiculing all those (like @FrankBullit67 ) who were opposed to it.

I would rather extend this idea to all Indian languages.

They should be written in Indian script not foreign script.

Even Urdu should be promoted to be written in Devanagari script not perso-arabic script.

So, Kashmiri either in Sharda or Devanagari. Ladakhi, Balti in Ladakhi (unified) rather than classical Tibetan. Urdu in Devanagari script than persian/arabic script.

Since Urdu is still among official languages in J&K, Devanagari should be made official script for it. @DrJitendraSingh @manojsinha_ @sunandavashisht

This is one of the reasons why I say we need a IBDF - Integrated Border Defence Force - comprising of all border security forces - BSF, ITBP, Assam Rifles, SSB and Coast Guards.

All under one ministry preferably Defense ministry. And most importantly, use all the early retirement buds from Indian Army, Air Force and Navy to fill in ranks of this IBDF. Not only it would be cost effective, intelligence failures could also be avoided if IBDF is in sync with Armed Forces. @haryannvi

"The fall of Tibet increased China's landmass by more than one-third." : @Chellaney

thehill.com/opinion/intern… I want to ask @Chellaney sir about his above assertion "...increased China's landmass by more than one-third...", what is the basis of it?

Are you taking Tibetan plateau as "Tibet", if so, this stands.

If Tibetan empire, it might not stand. Please clarify.

This needs to change. IPS adhikaris aren't supposed to be in Border defense. All the border defense forces should be merged into one and placed under Defense Ministry. Preferably, led by ex Army/Air Force/Navy people. BSF, Coast Guards, SSB, Assam Rifles & ITBP should be merged (can keep the names as such for historical legacies) into Integrated Border Defense Force & preferably put under Ministry of defense. @DefenceMinIndia @HMOIndia

India has been a wounded civilization because of Islamic violence: Pakistanis know this; indeed they revel in it. It is only Indian Nehruvians like Romila Thapar who pretend that Islamic rule was benevolent. We should face facts: Islamic rule in India was at least as catastrophic as the later Christian rule.
