It's been amazing to see DALL-E produce art 🎨 — but can A.I. be creative in other ways?

What if, instead of a painting, you asked the computer to make up a new vaccine? Or a treatment for your autoimmune disorder?

As of today, that's starting to happen.

Buckle up 🧵 This abstract black and white image shows the layers of a ne 2) My team @UWproteindesign just published new research that shows that artificial intelligence can create candidate medicines and vaccines.

It can even design enzymes that might pull CO2 out of the air.

Here's the peer-reviewed research: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

A year ago I tried the Moderna vaccine to see if it was safe. (Spoiler: It is!) Now, on my #COVIDvaccine anniversary, I’m happy to share that I just got a 3rd dose. This booster experiment will reveal (1) if strain-adapted vaccines boost immunity & (2) whether they are safe. I’ve heard many people say they don’t want to be the 1st in line to take a new vaccine. They’d rather wait & see how it goes for other people.

They ought to know that some of us have been vaccinated for a year already! My health has been monitored around the clock – no issues.

*deep breath*

So, I had a bit of an issue after getting my 2nd injection of a candidate COVID vaccine.

It was the highest dose — 10x what some others got. That high dose will no longer be tested.

I spoke abt it publicly for the 1st time: statnews.com/2020/05/26/mod… | @statnews There's no failure here — this is a big reason why we do clinical trials. Doctors don't know the right dose ahead of time, and need to learn what's well tolerated.

Even safe meds can't be taken at 10x doses.

There's an astonishing link between COVID-19 and HIV — at least when it comes to vaccines. I've not seen anyone report on this in the press, so follow me here.

This is an 18 year journey through science.

THREAD (1/10) Let's do this in reverse order: @Moderna was the 1st company to put a COVID-19 vaccine candidate into people. (I’m one of those people). Their vaccine is based on the coronavirus Spike protein.

You've seen this iconic image — those red bumps are Spike proteins.
