🧵 Let me explain how messed up women’s prison is. Today at the California Institution for Women, they had an event to celebrate Captain Spinney, who passed a few months ago. A handful of inmates organized this. They were SELLING state issued hamburgers, and snow cones. 1/4 They were accepting trust withdraws from inmates to make donations to the American Heart Association in honor of Spinney. Under normal circumstances I wouldn’t have anything to say but there is nothing normal about the Ca Dept. of Corrections esp at CIW. 2/4

🪡 I’m on the phone with a young woman in prison who’s being stalked and harassed by the most manipulative psychopath I’ve ever encountered. She put in a request for mental health services. She told the psych she felt helpless because a rapist’s whims are being prioritized 1/4 over her safety. The psych got upset and asked this young woman, “WHY ARE YOU JUDGING HER!? BECAUSE SHE RAPED 1 PERSON?!” I would like to get in touch with this psych and let her know it wasn’t 1 person. HE has raped a lot of MEN. She went on to tell me his girlfriend 2/4

I have a friend I met when I lived in the honor dorm in prison. She’s a “model inmate”, no write ups, captain’s clerk kind of gal, a lifer. She was found suitable for parole recently. She also voiced concerns about the implementation of the gender self ID 1/7 policy in a 602-the inmate appeals process that allows inmates to question policy when it adversely affects their welfare:A transfer under SB132 walked in on her in the restroom a few times-it bothered her. Her 602 stated that and was met with removal from the honor dorm 2/7
