The instinct to conform is a powerful survival tool given to you by your ancestors. Those that did conform got to stick with the clan and the protection that it offered. Those that did not conform were outcast and had to fend for themselves. 1/x In most cases, being an outcast was a death sentence, and those that were outcast had their genes weeded out of existence.
