So- people seem to be enjoying the new #PercyJackson series, which I can imagine Rick Riordan's very happy about, but here's a thread about authors who hate adaptations of their books. 10- Stephen King, The Shining.
I love both the book and the film but even I will admit that they are very different stories. King claimed Kubrick's film adaptation was "a beautiful cadillac, with no engine inside".
I can see his point with how the film treats Wendy Torrance.

Thread: Mister Rogers.
Fred McFeely Rogers was too good for this world. In this festive thread, I will show you that, as well as explaining why he's widely regarded as America's Grandad. He's also the reason we can record broadcasts and watch them later. To get a handle on the guy through my research, I discovered a quote he said in 1983. He wrote a book called "Mister Rogers talks with parents", (and we'll get to that), and this is what he said regarding seeing disasters on the news. Image

Thread: The racing driver you've never heard of.

Die Nürburgring is probably the most dangerous racing track on earth. Elevated at 3000 ft above sea level, over 12 miles long, Jackie Stewart was right to dub it "The Green Hell". When I say dangerous, I'm not exaggerating for effect. The passing of Leo Löwenstein in 2010 is the one I remember well, but many drivers have lost their lives on this infamous circuit. For many, it's the ultimate racing track, but it's feared with VERY good reason.

Well, Tony Khan isn't going to like me for this, but seeing as he's been signed to AEW on a multi year deal, here is a litany of things that AEW would rather you didn't know about Richard Fliehr. Content warning for sexual assault and even worse. Firstly, his matches. If you've seen him win once and lose twice, you've seen his entire career. He wins a lot more than losing albeit getting his arse handed to him first. There's a remarkable lack of diversity in his move set, and that's never changed.

Due to what day it is, allow me to tell you a story you may not have heard before. Of a man who not only saved thousands of lives, but predicted 9/11 and lost his life in the attacks. This is the story of one Rick Rescorla, the Cornishman and hero. Image Cyril Richard "Rick" Rescorla was born in Hayle, Cornwall in 1939, and raised by his mum and grandparents. He was apparently a keen sportsman at school, and his large frame and athleticism made him ripe for being a soldier. During WW2, Rick saw all these soldiers...

So- here’s a fun story about Canada, Maple Syrup and the largest heist Canada has ever seen. Buckle yersels in, this ride is WILD.

Maple Syrup. Something I’m reliably informed all Canadians can chug a litre of in one go and have to do once a year by law (only kidding), it’s… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Maple Syrup has been enjoyed by folks over thousands of years, with First Nations folks enjoying it centuries before us europeans “discovered” The Great Turtle and named it “America”.

But, the process of getting this stuff is incredibly difficult and Canada makes 90% of the… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Thread: Unusual facts about films you might not know.
No, I’m not going to mention Viggo Mortensen kicking a helmet and breaking his toe, everyone knows that one. These are 20 facts about films that are somewhat obscure. 20. Toy Story 2, the Pixar film was very nearly deleted. Thank goodness for backups, or “when she loved me” (now commonly sang in gay-bars across the world) may never have seen the light of day. Plus, it had the best video game of the bunch.

This isn’t too different from the state school I went to.
“Inclusion at all costs” is a great policy, until you realise that it leaves neurodivergent kids at even more danger than before, and leaves vulnerable kids open to attack. So: where does it lead? Telling kids to “walk away” only leads to bullies chasing and (eventually) brutally attacking their victims. This leads to metal detectors and police in schools.

I neither have the time nor the crayons to explain to ignorant Englishmen (for whom Napoleon Bonaparte and Charles De Gaulle still loom large in their heads) what’s going on in France right now, but I’ll do my best for you, Twitter. Basically, the pension age in France is being raised from 62 to 64. This is about as unpopular as letting Gary Glitter look after your weans. The French are suitably furious. At Place De La Concorde in Paris, the yellow jackets protests are (part un)
