If you're new to making covers, all the guidelines mixers have and the technical terms everywhere can be overwhelming 😵‍💫

Doubles, harmonies, adlibs, what are these? What about file types, export settings, and extra services?

This thread will break it all down 🧵
#sipsandtricks Image 1. File requirements

You've probably often seen people say that you have to send in .wav files - but why not mp3?

In simple words, wav files are technically of lossless quality which is why they're larger in file size!

While mp3 files have worse quality to make them smaller

Some stream audio tips simplified 🧵:

- Your mic volume hitting yellow areas in OBS isn't bad
- If your screams/laughs/noises are cut off on stream, it’s likely your noise suppression doing that
- If you distort when you're loud, turn down your gain knob on your interface/mic - Mic distance matters, if your acoustics are bad, good distance can slightly cover it up + add more bass/body to your voice
- If your quiet words sound choppy on stream, your noise gate is set too strong
- Filter order matters, denoising/gates first, limiter always last

Streamers - you don't NEED an SM7B to sound good ‼️

In this thread, I'll show you 9 dynamic microphones in cheaper price ranges, which you can get instead of the SM7B and still sound great both on streams and while singing

I'll also explain a few things 👇

#sipsandtricks Image To start things off - the SM7B is NOT a bad microphone, in fact, it has a great rep for a reason

The problem is, people recommend it like it’s the only "good" option and some believe you have to spend 500$ to sound good on stream, which is not true

If you never recorded a song/cover before, a big concern of yours might often be - "do my files sound good enough?"

When is a recording considered "usable" for someone to be mixed well? That is exactly what I'll be covering in this detailed thread! ☕️

#sipsandtricks Image Sometimes, getting your vocals mixed won't fix all of your problems

It can greatly improve all audio projects, but there are some things that even the best engineers can't completely resolve

That's why it's so important to make sure you're sending the best recordings possible

STREAMERS - STOP USING NOISE SUPPRESSION BY DEFAULT ‼️

De-noisers can often be very useful, but they should only be applied when you hear them improve your sound quality, not out of habit!

In this thread I'll explain why they could be bad for you 👇 🧵
#sipsandtricks Image DISCLAIMER: This thread was written mostly having in mind the OBS stock noise suppression, as it's the most commonly used

There are other denoisers, most of which will affect audio differently, or just not cause the same issues (or simply to a smaller extent)

How to record your first cover & commission a mix – a thread 🧵

Many of you mentioned that you're not sure how to start or had no idea how to properly work with a mixer for the first time, so here's a brief rundown of all the basics you need to know! #sipsandtricks First of all, we obviously need software to record in, and most of the time the most popular free options include Reaper or Audacity

Personally I 100% recommend Reaper over Audacity, it says there's a 60 days evaluation period but in reality you can still evaluate afterwards
