My take on Trump's tariff gambit, a 🧵

President Trump announced a massive list of tariffs which go into effect immediately. The entire world reacted with dismay, but if you have watched him over the years, you already know i) he's unpredictable sometimes and ii) he is very predictable if you know what his focus is on. To be very clear, this is not intended to be a defence or glad-handing Trump. My goal is to speculate based on what I know about him, namely:
1. He is very pro American. It is his calling card, and has been for decades.
2. He perceives the US as having been taken advantage of, not just by foreign companies but also US companies
