The Greens welcome today's #RobodebtRC report.
It is the culmination of years of fighting, advocacy and bravery from thousands of victims and their families who were indiscriminately targeted and traumatised by this callous and illegal scheme.
But justice is far from done. 🧵
Catherine Holmes’s thorough and scathing review proves what victims have been saying for years, and how the harm and trauma and deaths could have been avoided if not for the inhumane actions and lack of accountability from the Prime Minister on down.

BREAKING: Labor sided with the Liberals to vote down the Greens' bill to end native forest logging, ignoring state Labor governments, their constituents, scientists, and the vast majority of Australians who want our environment protected for future generations.
When we are in the midst of a global extinction and climate crisis, there’s no excuse for Australia to continue this environmental vandalism.
Only a total ban on native forest logging will protect our precious native forests and the wildlife that call our forests home.

On this day three years ago, the Liberal Government introduced the COVID Supplement and income support recipients received an extra $550 per fortnight.
More clearly than ever, it showed that raising income support is possible. Poverty is a political choice. 🧵 1/6
As the chair of the Senate poverty inquiry, I've heard countless stories of lives that were completely changed by the COVID Supplement.
Being out of poverty meant being able to focus on finding work and study, improved health and greater hope for their future. 🧵 2/6

"7 years of pretending to my kids that I’m not hungry or that I’ve already eaten."
Testimony from an anonymous witness to the Poverty Inquiry that every policy-maker needs to hear. She is a survivor of domestic violence trying to provide for her children. This is her story👇🧵
7 years ago, she unexpectedly became homeless as a result of domestic violence. Her life was threatened and so were her children’s. When she went to a refuge with her children, her husband withdrew all the money from the joint bank account & started court proceedings against her.

CW: Transphobia
Transphobia hurts people. It has no place in the Greens, where we have a platform of complete support for trans gender diverse & non-binary people. All our state& federal elected reps are staunch & outspoken supporters of the rights of trans &gender diverse folk
Today Linda Gale as Victorian Convenor made a statement that included that trans rights are non-negotiable. She said that she would uphold & fight for the right of TGD people to live their authentic lives free from harassment and discrimination.
I welcome these sentiments.

Here’s what’s really went down with the Religious Discrimination Bill in the House of Reps last night, and what needs to happen next.
~THREAD~
The good news: in the House of Reps, the Greens, crossbench, Labor & 5 moderate Liberals passed protections for LGBTQ+ kids in schools. This was Rebekha Sharkie’s amendment to the Human Rights Legislation Amendment Bill 2021, separate to the Religious Discrimination Bill 2021.

Here's why Aus can't get anywhere on EVs:
From my questions to the Dept of Industry, Science, Energy & Resources at #SenateEstimates
Minister Taylor's office directly told the Dept to effectively ditch the EV strategy & water it down to a ‘future fuels’ discussion paper. 1/
That's after consulting w/ 80 stakeholders & had a draft ready for an EV strategy! That wasn’t enough-looks like Taylor pushed the dept to commission dodgy figures that hugely misrepresent the benefits of shifting to EVs & cherry picked the worst figures from skewed modelling 2/
