this time last year I almost took my own life. I was depressed and had suicidal ideation for a long time, and there was a day I just decided I was done. I planned to overdose on strong painkillers. Crying, I sat on the floor with a bottle in my hand. In the process of opening the bottle, my phone rang. My friend Lonnie was calling, and mindlessly I picked up. He was calling for no reason, just bored while driving. He asked me what I was doing and I started sobbing uncontrollably. He asked me what was wrong and I replied,

A personal thread on mental health, depression, and financial insecurity <3 Earlier this month, I resigned as a cofounder from Fanhouse, a company which was my heart and soul for 3 years. A lot of people have been asking me about how I’m doing, so I’ve decided to open up about some of the things that have happened in the last year.

I made the difficult decision to resign from Fanhouse earlier today. I started the company to help creators, like myself, who needed to provide for themselves & their families. I care deeply about creators and want to help creators in a way that will better align with my values. I am sorry that I can't continue serving you all at Fanhouse. Since 2022, I haven't been an executive on the team nor driven many strategic decisions made by the company. Ultimately, I don’t feel right standing by company decisions that I am not making nor understand.

When I founded Fanhouse, the first thing I demanded and fought for with my cofounders was a 90/10 revenue split to creators. Why? Because as a creator, I knew how much every single percent meant to a creator's livelihood. For me, who had no other job, it meant food or no food.

since we're talking about wharton I would like to share some of my experiences there as a low-income undergrad. so at penn, there are more students in the top 0.1% income bracket than in the bottom 20%. only about 3% of the student body are from the bottom 20%— I was one of them my freshman year, I told a classmate I had a full ride to penn ($80k/year tuition) because my parents make only $10k/year, and they replied "you're so lucky, I have to pay full tuition cause my parents make too much money" lmaooooOoOo

At 10, I was applying for EBT with my family because we didn't have food. At 13, I was sleeping in an office closet because we didn't have a home. At 19, I was working 3 jobs in college to pay our bills.

I'm 24 now, and I'm crying to be selected as a Forbes 30 Under 30 member. I know Forbes 30 under 30 isn't always indicative of merit and can often be correlated with wealth, status, and connections, but for the me who still knows all too well what food insecurity feels like and still struggles paying back debt, I never thought I'd see myself on Forbes.

if you have ADHD, what chores/tasks do you find the hardest to do? for me, putting up laundry or cleaning my room is nearly impossible it's like, I go to my basket of clothes and start folding stuff. then I remember I bought a new dress and might as well open my package to put that away with the rest of the clothes. and then I might as well open all of my packages and put those things away while I'm at it

I cofounded @fanhouseapp 8 months ago to empower creators to monetize their content. We pay creators 90% of earnings. Now, Apple is threatening to remove Fanhouse from the app store unless we give them 30% of creator earnings. This is theft and exploitation. For context, Apple requires some apps to use in-app-purchases, in which Apple pockets 30% of EVERY transaction. This policy has always been absurd, even for big corporations like @EpicGames, and Apple is facing multiple charges of antitrust abuse for this insane take rate.

got into a bad accident tonight, my car is totaled and i got hurt. the EMS came and told me i should i go to the hospital but i didn't bc i was afraid i couldn't afford the fees. living in the US really means being more stressed about financial costs than if you'll die or not lol the way some people are replying to this by blaming me for getting into an accident (???) is the reason why we don't have universal health care in the US. i'm glad you're fortunate enough to not have been in accidents / worry about financial costs but not everyone is so lucky.

My mom worked at a store in Chinatown that was robbed at gunpoint when I was 16. She was run over by a car robbing the store when I was 18. Yesterday, she was threatened again by a gun. I'm 23 now. This violence isn't new and continues to threaten our livelihoods every day. 1/7 The problem is systemic. People are suffering from hunger, homelessness, and disease, and their anger is being loaded into a gun and pointed at BIPOC.
