If you really like and enjoy your parents and want to be around them as an adult, what did they do when you were a kid/what do they do now to make that the case? I just saw @traceylross on instagram hosting her very fun and loving looking parents for a holiday tea party and it made me want to take a masterclass from them

My mom’s pandemic love language continues to be stress relief and sourdough-bite themed care packages Image One funny part to me is that she REALLY loves Joel and wants to include stuff that he’ll like but he’s not an essential oil guy and generally gets himself what he wants/needs ...

It's the last day at @nytopinion for @JenParker393. 😢 She’s a bold, ambitious, creative editor who has had an *incredible* impact, provided a platform to some amazing writers & really inspired me. So I want to celebrate some of the pieces she’s worked on! 🗣 THREAD nytimes.com/2020/06/26/opi…

I never read any of the Harry Potter books.

(It was because I am absolutely incapable of getting interested in anything that didn’t or couldn’t happen in real life but let’s pretend it’s because I knew something was seriously off with J.K.) My wonderful cousin sent me all of them because there were some metaphors for trump or racism or something I just ... wizards 💤... no. Now also: transphobia, no.

This will differ for everyone but I think a good rule of thumb is that if you have never given any indication that you dislike racism, in public statements or private conversations about the environment in which you live/work, nobody wants to open up to you right now If you weren't in the "we're the people who don't like racism" conversation (which i guarantee exists everywhere) before this, or if you forgive/excuse racism or are buddy-buddy with the racists, you might have wonderful intentions at the moment but you're not a source of comfort

I think I had my first migraine as a result of reading this The "respond to a racist police killing without saying 'race' 'police' or 'killing'" challenge

I *know* space travel is exciting, but I just don't feel it I'm watching this countdown clock only to figure out how much time there is before we return to protest coverage

When did we stop saying "🗣THREAD"?
Anyway, 🗣THREAD A related story: My mom, a 74-year-old white lady in a white small town, likes to go for walks through the high school across the street from her but due to social distancing requirements it had signs that said "NO TRESPASSING." Guess what she did ...

It’s totally possible that my brain just won’t let me accept what I’m reading but hear me out - I think there’s more to this story... thelily.com/i-had-to-choos… I think there was some reason she wanted to shut down the company anyway (and maybe they are financially stable because of the rental property that was mentioned) and the coronavirus/childcare thing was an excuse

Somewhere around between 1992 and 1994 my dad was in a Duracell battery commercial and I'm dying to find it. How do I do this? He wasn't an actor, he played himself as a ~ real person ~

At the bottom of the screen it said "Michael - Atlanta" (he did not live in Atlanta but whatever)

You know when you decide want to do something to yourself – a tattoo or bangs or hair color or whatever – it becomes an OBSESSION and you can’t rest until it’s done? I’m feeling like that, but it’s about cutting
@byjoelanderson's hair. And I don’t have consent. Update: So after a lot of YouTube research, i've come to the humbling conclusion that barber colleges exist for a reason. Haircutting is a real art. And I don't want to draw blood. So I will not be using clippers. But ...

This is really good
vox.com/first-person/2… It also reminds me of something I've been thinking of a lot: how much easier it is to "show up" and seem like/feel like/be a good friend when you have the extra money to spend
