today's election day in TX. 4 years ago, hervis rogers was called a hero when he waited in line 6 hours to vote.
but TX prosecuted him for casting that ballot. and while he still urges others to do their civic duty, he's decided he'll never vote again:

you may remember 4 years ago when rogers was the last man in line at the texas southern university polling location on super tuesday. he watched others give up and go home but he waited until 1am to vote.
today the TX legislature could vote to abolish the elections official in the state's largest county. this is new territory; no one i spoke with was aware of any precedent for the state getting rid of a local official in just one county without its consent

what information is this unprecedented decision based on? we know that in november around 20 polls in harris county ran out of ballot paper, a tiny fraction of 782 polls open that day. voters who went to a location without paper could go to 700+ others
new: the TX legislature in the coming days could vote to abolish the harris county elections administrator position. this would be an unprecedented step to remove a local official by targeting just one county without its consent >>
good morning from harris county commissioners court we have 387 items on the agenda today & i brought a ton of snacks
i just remembered the one (1) meeting two months ago when they tried to limit how long members of commissioners court can discuss each agenda item 😂
ok houston here is a 🧵 on the enormous amount of money going into harris county elections this year

traditionally, vendors & contractors have called the shots when it comes to funding harris county commissioners court elections, but that story is changing with an ~influx of money from more politically-driven contributions~
I just got to the polling place at Texas Southern University. There are at least 100 people still waiting to vote. It's 11:15pm. #TXDecides@HoustonPubMedia
A police officer told me most of the people still waiting to vote got here before 6pm.
