Now on MedRxiv: Virological and serological characterization of COVID-19 ICU patients in the REMAP CAP trial w/ @HarvalaHeli, @Simmonds_Lab, @Menon_Cambridge and others. B.1.1.7 data included!

A 🧵 of our (NON PEER REVIEWED) major results 1/1
medrxiv.org/content/10.110… The conclusions fall broadly into two themes:

- Implications for ongoing trials of severely ill COVID-19 patients and post-hoc analysis of completed trials
- Preliminary data on the behavior of SARS-CoV-2 VoC B.1.1.7 in clinical patients

I'll touch on both in kind. 2/9

How might the sequence space available to SARS-CoV-2 shift? In this review, @Simmonds_Lab and I explore the overabundance of C>U transitions as SARS-CoV-2 has adapted to humans and speculate on the role of mammalian APOBEC proteins in this process (1/8)
doi.org/10.1016/j.viro… Lots of information is covered in this article, broadly looking at APOBEC evolution and how they may be involved in driven evolution in structured RNA viruses, but here I'll just focus on the bits relevant to SARS-CoV-2 (2/8)
