Writing a Winning Resume
I review 2-3 resumes per week. One common error I see is people having responsibilities in their “Experience section” instead of accomplishment statements. To correct that, please use this format:
“𝑫𝒊𝒅” 𝑿 𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒀 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒁
Details 👇🏽
1/ “Did”
This is the action word & can be replaced with other words to portray your accomplishments.
Building your Data Analyst/Scientist SQL portfolio - Google Cloud edition
1. Create a @googlecloud account 2. Find a public dataset on BigQuery 3. Use Google BigQuery to write SQL statements to pull the data 4. Create a GitHub repo & add your SQL queries
More 👇🏽
5. Take screenshots of your queries 6. Analyze the data in Excel or any BI tool 7. Do a write-up explaining your process with screenshots
Doing this will prove your exp. in SQL, GCP, GitHub & Excel/BI tool. See 2 links below - a BigQuery project & how to access public datasets.

Popular Question: “What industry should I focus on when starting out as a data scientist or analyst?”
A: My opinion is you should cast a wider net in the job market at first. At the interview stage for entry level roles, you’d be tested on your analytical skills.

I planned to do a thread about my wedding but kept putting it off. A lot of folks asked me how much we spent to help them plan towards theirs 💃🏽, so let me address that first. Total expenses came up to ~$22K (₦15M) incl. honeymoon expenses
Details x pictures👇🏽
2/ First of, when we started planning for the wedding back in April, I said we shouldn’t spend more than $7,400 (₦5M) for 100 guests 😭. I didn’t know I was joking with myself especially cos the wedding was in Lagos & was a 2-day event. Plus, we ended up with 200+ guests.

Popular Question: “How do I know when I’m ready to apply for a Tech job after months of learning?”
A: Once you’ve learnt the minimum required skills & have 2 solid projects (varies by field), you should be confident to start applying.
Want to read more? here’s my story 👇🏽
2/ I struggled a lot with that question when I was pivoting to Data Science & Analytics. After 3 months of learning, I had 2 awesome E2E Data Science projects with dashboards and still felt it wasn’t enough. However, I was lying to myself.

✨ My Data Analytics Roadmap ✨
My generic answer to those starting out as data analysts has always been start with Excel, SQL then move to a BI tool. That is vague. This guide has a list of major topics you should learn for each tool. Pay attention to the footnote.
A thread 🧵 2/ ✨My Data Analytics Roadmap contd. ✨
Python is optional but it’s a definite nice-to-have if dealing with big data. Please note that this list is not exhaustive. A major part of my learning has come from working on projects and reviewing codes others wrote.

this show reveals a lot of things happening in our current society that leaves a trail of broken people in its path called life cos:

The other day while dressing up for work, my dress ripped a bit on the side. I got my sewing kit & while stitching it up, I remembered how my late mum had taught my sis & I how to sew in Junior high. Everything I am today, I owe to her. Yesterday made it 7 years she was gone.
My acts of service to others now is due to all her selfless acts I saw over the years 😊. I remember back then in Covenant Uni, whenever she came to visit, she would prepare food for all my course-mates. You’d think it was my birthday. Everyone looked forward to her visits.
A close friend did Flutterwave Graduate Trainee test recently. Most of the questions were on Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. I saw the questions & I know that ~70% of the average Nigerian graduates would not be able to answer them w/o having to use Google. Not trying to shade
👇🏽
I’ve had to interact with graduates of Nigerian universities incl. Private unis. Most of them don’t need to use Excel till their final year and even when they do, they probably outsource the projects or use very basic functions. The Flutterwave questions were quite technical.

Are you getting overwhelmed with numerous resources on your data or tech journey?
I’ve seen people complain about this & I was also a “victim” when I started my “pivot to tech” journey in 2020. In this short thread 🧵, I will list a few things that helped me.
2/ What to do?
✨ Create a road map. E.g. as a data analyst, you’d need to learn Basic Stats, Excel, SQL & PowerBI or Tableau, write these out
✨Assign one course (at most two) to each skill
✨ Target one project after each course
✨Stick to the plan above & forget the noise
