The end of the decade is a good time to look back and marvel at the giant strides that Bitcoin has made since Satoshi gave us the whitepaper in 2008. It's also a natural point to look forward to what the upcoming years might hold in store. This is where I think Bitcoin is headed over the next few years. Tell me why I'm wrong and what I've missed!

Those of you new to the space might not be aware of how much time and energy @TheBlueMatt has dedicated to building Bitcoin. Let's take a look at some of the highlights. When he was still in high school, he was contributing PRs to Bitcoin. Making sure nodes can reach each other on the network? That's Matt (github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…). Encrypting wallets to keep your private keys safe? Also Matt (github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…).

It's showtime at the @ChaincodeLabs Lightning residency! After a week of learning and hacking, our ressies are presenting their projects. Can't wait to see what they've built! First up, @matthewramsden is demo'ing his iOS app to integrate with the @SuredBits API.

[paraphrase]: "I could sign up for a starter package for $thousands per month. For me, that's a non-starter package. With lightning I can pay per API call."

This isn't repeated often or loudly enough.

Bitcoin is a social experiment, not a piece of software.

Bitcoin is sometimes described as 'antifragile'. Its antifragility doesn't come from lines of code. It comes from its users. Users who choose to run full nodes. Users who choose which software to run and which rules to follow. Users who know that progress can only be made by building consensus.

Remember: Bitcoin and lightning are open source protocols.

If you don't understand them, it's your responsibility to educate yourself;
if you think they're broken, it's your responsibility to fix them;
if you don't like them, it's your responsibility to build something better. Things are moving incredibly fast. There aren't enough hours to keep up with everything that's happening. The only thing more scarce than Bitcoin is your time.
