"Why aren't we talking about this?"

This is actually a *fantastic* question; I'm really glad I came across this tweet with hard VAERS data, and I think it really is worth looking at and talking about, though maybe not for the reason you might think.

🧵 As a preface, let me clarify that I am *not* a virologist, epidemiologist, or any other medical professional of any stripe, relevant or otherwise. I'm just a computer guy with ADHD, curiosity, and a passing familiarity with a calculator. 😊

I want to hear your wins! RT with some win you had today or this week, no matter how small, that you wanted to share with friends but didn't for fear that you'd sound like you were bragging. Here's mine: I've been trying to do more dinners for the fam that are more actual food and less "heat the oven and grab the box/bag of FrozenBreadedChickenProduct to throw on the tray". +

@lauranlou365 @edutinker Yes, I am. My wife and I are in our mid-40s, and it'll be 22 years this summer. Of course I was attracted to her when we met, and yes, I find her beautiful now. + @lauranlou365 @edutinker But the beauty of a 44yo mother of 9, having birthed 5 and nursed 4, having fought the cancer that took a piece of her, having battled a season of deep, crippling depression and anxiety that almost stole her life, having discovered the cancer returned and spread, +

@lauranlou365 @edutinker My sister in Christ, I so appreciate your concern for strong marriages. I don't think anyone here would disagree about the value of godly, loving, deeply-bonded couples in our churches and our society. But I confess I'm concerned about your heart here. + @lauranlou365 @edutinker You've said you would approach the topic lovingly, yet I can't help but feel you haven't quite done so here, with this poll tweet and in the replies. Using phrases like "am I going to step on toes" and "the truth hurts" convey...a certain lack of care, let's say, +

It's been a week now since the RZIM news, and I've been seeing this kind of response to it in various places. "There but for the grace of God..." and so on, and I want to join the chorus of voices saying "No" but from a different angle.

So buckle up, it's storytime. 🧵 Owen Strachan tweet saying:... A few years ago I worked for a small company that was doing well for itself and held occasional all-company social events. The office itself was about an hour and a half from my home, and this particular event was nearby so most of us just shared a few Ubers to get there.

"Why is this helpful?" 🧵

Some folks are asking this question in response to yesterday's release of the investigation into Ravi Zacharias's hidden abusive behavior, and honestly I get it. Given how visible and well-respected he was, the reach and impact of his ministry, how one-sided any media reports can feel these days, and how on guard many have become against what can feel like a vindictive "cancel culture", it's not surprising that many folks' first  instinct is either skepticism or, in the question above,

When my kids had been stuck at home in quarantine for a few months, going stir crazy and with daily rhythms and sleep schedules all out of whack and thrown out the window, the two more melanin-blessed still with us at home took to going for an occasional late night walk together just to get out and get some fresh air while everything’s dark and quiet out here in the country. He’s 14, she’ll be 16 soon.

A parable on power and merit. Thread.

You and I both have farms. We both start with 1 acre, just trying to raise enough crops and animals to survive. Then I realize that if I had more crops and livestock than I needed, I could sell them to make money and live more comfortably. So every month I come by your place, beat you up, and take a bunch of your produce and some animals off to market to sell them for 100% profit. You'd fight back, but I'm bigger and have a gun. I stole yours first, see, and you're new in town so you don't have any friends to help.
