The New York Times is protected by Section 230, and by the First Amendment. Facebook is protected by Section 230, and by the First Amendment. There is no such thing in Section 230 as the distinction between a "publisher" and a "platform". The New York Times can exercise editorial judgment, and it can moderate comments by the public on their website, without being responsible for everything that everyone does. That's a good thing.
